Former attorney general Bill Barr on Friday said the facts surrounding the FBI search of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence are beginning to show that the Department of Justice was being “jerked around” by the former president as the Feds sought to obtain classified government records.

Barr spoke directly to Republican outcries about the nature of the “unprecedented” search of a former president, offering a counterpoint: “It’s also unprecedented for a president to take all this classified information and put them in a country club.”

“And how long is the government going to try to get that back? They jaw bone for a year. They were deceived on the voluntary actions taken. They then went and got a subpoena. They were deceived on that, they feel, and the facts are starting to show that they were being jerked around. And so how long, you know, how long do they wait?” Barr said in an interview on Fox News.

It is amazing to watch Barr try to redeem himself for his service as Trump's personal attorney instead of obeying his oath to the nation as Attorney General. Barr spent the better part of two years enabling Trump, and to watch him now as he tries to ignore his sycophancy is pathetic.

@windinhishair I think this may be what the MAGA corporation is looking at: Dump Trump, likely going with DeSantis or similar, then as Trump is prosecuted use talk like Barr did here to boost their propaganda against Garland and Biden, claiming Biden should have stopped Trump quicker so is incompetent. It makes no sense, but it’s the way they think and plan.

Former presidents have taken classified documents.

Prior to passage of the Presidential Papers Act of 1978 in response to Nixon's taking papers, the papers were considered the property of the former President and not the government. What other former President has taken papers since, and don't say Obama. That spurious charge already has been debunked by many. The papers are in Chicago, but at a National Archives facility and controlled by the National Archives. Taken there by National Archives staff, not Obama or Obama staffers.
