So here's the deal with having a gay nominee. The majority of Americans support gay rights. And because nearly all of those people vote Democrat, the Democrats won't lose much (if any) support by nominating a gay person.
However, having a gay nominee will embolden Republicans to vote against him. Republicans who only vote sometimes will definitely vote just to stop Buttigieg from becoming president. Whereas if it's just another straight establishment Democrat, they won't like him, but they might not care enough to vote in that election.
I don't like that being gay would be an issue, but considering we're extremely close to losing our Democracy, all I want right now is to keep Democrats in power. Everything else doesn't matter until Fascism is defeated.
