@markansas Right now it is about Ukraine.
But it's true that we (= "the West") will have to make sure that Russia will never never again be able to commit such crimes and atrocities. Russia has become an enemy of all mankind, and every nation in its vicinity can be the next victim of Russian violence.
No country can be safe until Russia is no longer capable of waging a war of aggression.

@helenS And that kind of talk is what leads to more war and dehumanizing. This is not the language of anyone interested in peace.
And it is curious that wars of aggression are suddenly a problem when someone else does it.

@helenS personally the country i worry about is china. russia was bad and now it not as bad as when the cold war with russia i grew up with.. china is growing why to fast. ukraine is a war crime and its not going to get any better for a long while. sad to say.. putin is poisoning and killing too many of the russian oligarchs there . i dont think he even trust his own staff.. ya a madman and nukes what can go wrong. hopefully some one will poison him..

@markansas Ukraine is just a proxy war against Russia which in turn is ultimately about bogging down China's biggest military ally and Ukraine too. The best scenario for the US and NATO is actually a decades long meat grinder like Afghanistan. The US is no friend to Ukrainians.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@markansas Got to keep the American empire intact.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow 'and there is no reason for it .. so sad

It's the Russian terror state which dehumanizes people, not those who fight back. This is not the language of anyone interested in peace.
I'm interested in peace as much as anyone else, but not unconditional. Not under all circumstances. We have to withstand the tyrant, or we will be the next victims.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@markansas And make no mistake, the new cold war with China is like every other colonial empire war. It is about preserving the dominance of the S&P and the Fortune 500.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@helenS Good job proving my point.
And your war mongering and hyperbole says otherwise.
You want to fight a tyrant and menace to world peace? Start in Washington.

@helenS It is also convenient everyone ignores the fact this all started with a botched US colour revolution in 2014.

@markansas
hopefully some one will poison him..
It's not Putin, it's Russia. It is with extreme sadness that I have to say I'm afraid it's true. If Mr Putin died tomorrow of a heart attack (much more likely than poisoning) I'm afraid nothing would change. There is a culture of violence and crime inside the country, and it's very unlikely that this will change just because one of the leaders dies. I predict that Russia will become more and more isolated; a juggernaut Iran, nothing more than that. Putin may try to play Xi's poodle for a while though.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@helenS Wow. You are really laying it on thick with dehumanizing an entire nation of 140 million people.
helenS · 36-40, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow It's the intention of Russia to dehumanize people, not mine.

@helenS No, that is literally all you have done on this post. In fact it reads alot like shit from the far right. Might want to reflect on that a bit.
@helenS speaking of iran .. we created that one . we did a coup in iran and took out there leader which led to where we are now..
The 1953 Iranian coup d'état, known in Iran as the 28 Mordad coup d'état was the overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh in favor of strengthening the monarchical rule of the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi on 19 August 1953.

and when they took it back they was pissed.. the link is to the nsa website.

@markansas And Cuba was run by a USA backed military dictator in the pocket of Al Capone.
helenS · 36-40, F
@markansas Mosaddegh's "crime" was the nationalization of the Iranian oil industry to finance a range of social and political measures such as social security, and land reforms. It's a horrible fact that America contributed to that coup, and supported the Shah and his secret service, SAVAK who roasted their opponents alive.
Supporting Pinochet's coup in Chile is another example; supporting the fascists in Greece another one.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow well we even did it for bananas once and more often than we should have done.

@markansas Yep. That is where the term banana republic comes from. Installing right wing dictators for United Fruit Company.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow do not get me wrong .. i love the usa i just dont have to like it. voting is important. and those who do not vote . should not complain . just my thought
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@markansas I mean I think political engagement is good but the US has no real alternative options and is a first past the post system. Voting is kind of the least useful form of civil engagement in the systems in place in most of the Commonwealth.
Then again in the USA you can get 1 million people to protest in the streets, completely ignore them and still call yourself a government of the people, for the people.
Something is very broken.

@markansas That is nice to believe. But revolutionary change has never in history happened by playing by the rules of the existing order.
If things really changed the words of Dr. King and Malcolm X would read like quaint oddities from history instead like commentary on current events.
