If Pelosi would proceed with her trip as scheduled, her position as current House speaker would make her among the most senior officials to ever make a diplomatic visit to the island.

No House speaker has visited Taiwan since Newt Gingrich in 1997.

China says they don't want Pelosi to go. China also says they own Taiwan. No one else agrees with that.

So, what do you think? Should Nan go to Taiwan?

I'm not sure why they have to do this right now.
China's position is quite clear and was made known well in advance. Why do we need an in your face moment right now? What do we gain from it? Are we bullies now? Are we doing them wtf just seems ill advised right now.
Now China must do something to save face within their country and on a global front. I know this country is well armed and there are probably ten billion bullets between the citizens and the military. China has one edge on us and that their hypersonic missile. This has I dare you written all over it. From a life long Democratic this was not well thought out. Biden is ancient and pelosi is ancient. They are acting like they have more nerve than common sense.

Especially so, after Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal fiasco.

When you're a superpower, you either act like one or you aren't one.

There's no need to fear their hypersonic missile. War with the United States would be national suicide for them.

And if they are foolish enough to go nuclear, we can park several Boomers in the South China Sea and turn their country into a radioactive wasteland in an hour.
