We hate peace and protection, I guess

Eighteen Republican lawmakers voted against the US allowing Finland and Sweden to join NATO.

Among the dissenters in the Monday vote were some of the party's farthest-right members, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Matt Gaetz (FL) and Lauren Boebert (CO).

The vote was a symbolic one to express support from the House for the applications — the formal process by which the US can ratify new NATO members takes place in the Senate. The House bill passed easily with 394 votes, leaving the 18 Republicans in a small minority even among their own party.

Here is the full list:
Andy Biggs (AZ)
Dan Bishop (NC)
Lauren Boebert (CO)
Madison Cawthorn (NC)
Ben Cline (VA)
Michael Cloud (TX)
Warren Davidson (OH)
Matt Gaetz (FL)
Bob Good (OH)
Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA)
H. Morgan Griffith (VA)
Thomas Massie (KY)
Tom McClintock (CA)
Mary E. Miller (IL)
Ralph Norman (SC)
Matthew M. Rosendale Sr. (MT)
Chip Roy (TX)
Jefferson Van Drew (NJ)

Nineteen US lawmakers didn't vote. Funny they'd give Putin what he's been hoping for.

@Thecollective lol this is one of those I hope you’re wrong moments.

These people may be Putinists. They hate the free West (and its moral "perversions") and want to see it replaced by something like Russia's tyranny (where men are men and homos are in jail) perhaps?
chrisCA · M
@helenS They could be in the Kremlin's pocket.
helenS · 36-40, F
@chrisCA Yes maybe but i would assume they are just right-wing extremists.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
They are right wing extremists and are extremely, blindly loyal to the Trump regime and Trump supporters. So whether they actually know and acknowledge it to themselves they are in Putin’s pocket .@helenS
BlueVeins · 22-25
Absolutely disgusting. Crazy how much they'll virtue signal about soldiers fighting for our freedom... but then the first time in their lives when soldiers actually do fight for their country's freedom, they're vehemently against it. 🤦‍♂️
@BlueVeins war is virtue. Murka is that? Okay. Thank you for the alert!
When you vote for a trump aligned stooge.........you vote for Putin's agenda for America.

If we want our country to change we need each state to send student representatives as exchange students to both 1,2,3 rd world countries respectively per sophomore, Junior, senior years. And each state rotates the countries. The shares presentations. Done.Nothing will become better until we better understand all governments and visa versa.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Graylight yes that’s a problem. I for one don’t want to be anyones tabloid!!!!! But there are some very very practical solutions that attorneys won’t allow thanks to liability insurance and settlement threats left and right!!!!! Greedy greedy greedy.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Mindful I Like that...and think...it stands a Very Good chance of working
Too Bad..it Never will be Tried
Mindful · 56-60, F
@TheDisciplinarian yes, I would need an Angel Investor/ sponsor to promote and lobby that concept outside of the normal government channels… once congress is left to its traditional methods, the outcome will be a bit of a washed down concept.

Do you think Boebert or Green can point to Finland and Sweden on a world map? Or provide a history of NATO?
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
Putin stooges, everyone of them!!

"Reactions to the Allied Monetary Plans 1943
The American and British monetary plans – devised by Harry Dexter
White, Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Treasury, and John Maynard
Keynes, famous British economist, respectively – were launched in
April 1943. A couple of weeks earlier, Harald Magnusson, the Riksbank’s
representative in New York, had informed Ivar Rooth, the
Bank’s Governor, that he had failed to obtain a copy of White’s plan.
Magnusson hesitated to approach White, since the latter was known to
be hostile towards all neutrals and had long considered Sweden part of
the German sphere of interest. “He unfortunately belongs to the civil
servants of Jewish ancestry in leading positions, whom we at this date
cannot count upon as friends. Furthermore, the man is said to be
choleric and is generally regarded as being difficult to deal with.”
However, a few days later Magnusson was able to transmit some details
of the White plan to the Riksbank.5
Over the next couple of days he sent
several reports on the differences between the White and Keynes plans and the critical views that were being expressed, especially among
leading U.S. bankers.
The White plan was made public by the U.S. Secretary of the
Treasury, Henry Morgenthau, on April 5, 1943. The plan was sent with
a letter from Morgenthau to 37 countries, of which Sweden was not one."

@checkoutanytime Please. The only reason they're joining is for protection from Russia, which has made direct threats.
@Graylight Russia 🥱
Graylight · 51-55, F
@checkoutanytime Oh, you shouldn't dismiss them out of hand. After all, they bought you a president.

If Finland and Sweden join NATO, which predominantly goes directly Against Putin's demands to mot expand NATO, it could trigger a nuclear war! And that's from the horse's mouth!
Thecollective · 100+
@Montanaman he knows he can't do it without destroying his own country in the process it's threats nothing more he just doesn't like that his actions caused by invading ukraine has pushed more countries to NATO
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Montanaman There's a point to be made there, but if Putin wants a war, he will start and wage a campaign of war. That's going to happen or not completely independent of what Finland and Sweden do. Putin follows up on threats a lot like Trump.

If you think allowing Russia to organize and manage that part of the world with impunity doesn't create more trouble for us, then I can't convince you.
@Montanaman If the "horse" can't whip a country the size of Texas...........who in the U.S. or would fear them now? Kim is just like Putin.........."you better do as I say or else I'm gonna......." And then........nothing. Once NATO opened it's doors to Finland and Sweden Russia suddenly had two new fronts to protect as those countries can now be used as jumping off points to establish bases......stockpile millions of metric tons of weapons right next to his border....... to attack Russia should Putin get even more stupid......and he knows it.

Republicans are no longer politicians...they are anarchists themselves
tindrummer · M
putin apologists - in his pocket like their beloved orange leader
More traitorous asses.

Enlarging NATO in the light of the overt pushes by the Russian bear, trying to regain lost empire (pre-Communist or otherwise), MAKES SENSE.

The fact that formerly UNaligned countries can see the way the wind is blowing tells us something.

I fear the Senate will vote not to accept, a disaster. I truly hope it passes.
I wonder how much (and in what form) Putin pays them for their treachery??

justanothername · 51-55, M
That all sounds very sad and treacherous to me.
Do all the Republicans who voted against US support for Finland and Sweden to join NATO actually want Putin to recreate the Russian Empire as it was under the rule of Peter the Great in 1627? Google a map of the Russian empire 1627. That war lasted 21 years.

Putin doesn’t give two fucks about the US. He just cares about his own legacy.
ShimaDust · 51-55, F
Thank you for the news <3
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
So its the Republicans who are the real friends of Putin? Or is it just that Republicans think think their supporters are so stupid that supporting Democrats on anything is treason??😷
What tf is wrong with these people ?! 🤦🏻
Graylight · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard Oh, how I long for the days of not agreeing with the other side but being able to understand their position because they could articulate it above bayou-speak.

I don't believe in the devil, but I'm certainly considering all possibilities these days.
