Who is to blame for the division in the states when it comes to politics?

I know some will say Donald Trump, but it's not as if the U.S was totally united before Trump was president. Did Obama have the country united? Did Bush? and so on?

Between the States?

I'm inclined to blame Trump for a lot, but this issue has been with us from the beginning, and adopting a Constitution to form United States only seems to have put a bandaid on the mess we had under the Articles of Confederation.

We sort of moved and adapted the bandaid a little bit after the Civil War, but we kept it more or less intact instead of replacing it, and I think Trump has pretty much more or less just exploited that (as has pretty much everyone else, to be fair).

As usual, Misty, you haven't thought things through very well.

What you so disparagingly call a "bandaid" has seen us through about 250 years with essentially the same form of republican (small R) government.

VERY few major countries in the world can say that.

Many here won't appreciate what we had until we've foolishly lost it. 🙄

Misty isn't the worst, by any means.
She just rarely thinks things through.
Otherwise, I believe her heart is in the right place (unlike Pics et al. 😂).
@Thinkerbell ,"Trust me," not that my thoughts are necessarily right, but I have, to the best of my abilities and inclination, considered the relative longevity of the US Constitution, and I actually respect the "conservatism" of it as well as the liberalism, and I'd much prefer to amend and interpret it as opposed to abandoning it.

Having said that, the OP was about division between the States, and I stand by my statement that neither Trump, nor Obama, Bush, or really anyone else really had the States "United" when it comes to politics.

I'm not sure that even would be a good thing, tbh, because what I most like about the underlying structure laid about by the Constitution is in fact, the limitations on power and checks and balances built in.

That's, honestly, what I hope we don't lose.

Bravo!
And that, Misty, is far more than a "bandaid."

@Thinkerbell never thought so. You've encountered Leo Bloom so we both know.

Perfect nic for him. In Ulysses Leopold Bloom was a total cuck. Wife screwed the whole town when he was out at work😁

@MistyCee when has this country actually bern united? For short periods after a disaster or atrocity?

The fallback is groups will revert to their competing agendas. And there's more at stake (wealth, power) here than anywhere else

"Mr. Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods' roes. But most of all, he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine."

I tried steak and kidney pie once... but only once, never again. 🤢 🤮 🤢
Just one bite of the kidney confirmed that Joyce was right,
except that the urine tang wasn't faint. 🤢

That's kind of my point. We haven't been, and States (or voters really) have always had competing agendas.

@Thinkerbell so it's like a golden shower and REALLY foul meat at once.

Leo's deepest fantasy!

"...States (or voters really) have always had competing agendas."

...as do the people/politicians of every country in the world.

The difference in the US is that we have had a Constitution that has (so far) prevented any one group from establishing a one-party dictatorship, something very few other major countries can say.
@Thinkerbell So far so good, I guess.

The next coin toss, though, is still 50/50, and even though I'm not a scientist, that worries me.

Obviously, I don't have have an overriding belief or faith to tell me I don't need to worry.
