Russia is seeking surveillance drones from Iran, a top Biden aide says

WASHINGTON — President Biden’s national security adviser said on Monday that Russia is seeking hundreds of surveillance drones from Iran, including those capable of firing missiles, to use in the war in Ukraine.

The official, Jake Sullivan, said it was unclear whether Iran had already sent any of the remotely piloted systems to Russia, but said that the United States had information that indicated Iran was preparing to train Russian troops to use them as soon as this month.

“Our information indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred U.A.V.s, including weapons-capable U.A.V.s on an expedited timeline,” Mr. Sullivan told reporters at the White House, referring to unmanned aerial vehicles.

It is actually a very smart move strategically. Because attacking their shipments would start a second war with Iran which even DOD says is a no win quagmire like Afghanistan.
@Northwest Seems you are unaware that these things exist even though they have been around for almost a century at this point.

Rebel without a clue, here's a Geography lesson for dummies:

And some facts:

- US aircraft would have to fly 1,200 miles, which is 4X its operating range, and air-refuel over hostile territory 6 to 8 times.

- US cruise missiles have a 600 mile range.

Ever thought why Israel did not strike Iran's nuke facilities? The answer is because they can't.

Stop embarrassing yourself. The point is less about my expertise and more about the dumbfuck that you are.

Says a lot about Russia's military hardware if they're buying drones from Iran, the Ukrainians don't have to much to worry about them. Iran isn't exactly known for it's advanced development of any military hardware...
@spjennifer Drones haven't really been cutting edge for decades at this point and it has likely more to do with both production requirements and it also is not something that the USAF can go after without starting a second unwinnable war. Strategically it is smart.

Russian drone technology has largely be focused on lard vehicles. It is why the T14 MBT is the first tank built to eventually replace the crew entirely.

Russia and Iran are joined at the hip in Syria. If this is true, it's very embarrassing for Russia.
"Surveillance"...
