I believe Saudi Arabia is now undergoing one of the world’s largest and most peaceful revolutions ever known in history

and no one from the outside is paying close attention.

Within only five years, Saudi Arabia went from a closed country, with limited human rights, full dependence on oil revenues, no tourism, and pay inequality to having implemented one of the world’s largest economic and social reforms, without any resistance or bloodshed. Here are some of the major reforms:

1/A series of human rights reforms were implemented (enforced equal pay, ban on women’s driving was lifted, male guardianship system was abolished, flogging as a form of punishment was abolished etc…..)

2/Women were given their full legal rights, including abolishing the requirement to wear Hijab or Abaya.
3/
Adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards radicalism and has completely curbed the power of religious police.
4/
Foreign tourism and investment were allowed for the first time. The country targets 100 million visitors a year by 2030 (you can easily get a visa now using your phone )
5/
Imposed a 50% local content requirement for all government contracts to boost the local manufacturing industry.
6/
Increased non-oil revenues by 47% and focused on untapped mineral wealth and local and international investments.
7/
Reopened cinemas and allowed concerts and international entertainment events to be held after being banned for 30 years. (Some of the biggest events happened in Saudi Arabia in the past few years )
8/
A nationwide campaign to crack down on corruption resulted in retrieving more than $100 billion.
9/
Promoted tolerance and interfaith dialogue.

10/ launched some of the most efficient digital platforms that received global rewards especially during covid and in the education sector.

And far far more so as a citizen I am impressed.

This is great and long overdue. It takes a long time to change societies, but these are good steps. There will be many progressive people within the country who will approve.
What do you think is the reason behind these reforms?
