Grammar snobs are patronising, pretentious and just plain wrong – Mona Chalabi | Comment is Free

I agree but that's largely because my view at this point is languages exist in two states, they're either dead, or they're shifting and a language that isn't shifting is necessarily a dead one.

Grammar evolves as well.

if a language isn't evolving along with its grammar then it's a dead language.

Because the only languages that don't are the dead ones.

English is evolving, but that's because it's alive.

That's one of many reasons. Also those that criticize are simply being antisocial. Too busy looking at the words to understand what is attempted on being said.

@BetweenKittensandRiots just as Americans have their limited world view so do the British. They will deign that it's not authoritative because of 150 years of tradition.

The "Queens" English is the Queens English. No ifs ands or buts by them.
@DeWayfarer I'm American, and I find our cultural lack of curiosity about the wider world shameful and embarrassing and frankly am not part of that.

@BetweenKittensandRiots so am I an American. I have no problem criticizing Americans as well as any other country! Great Britain makes no difference than say Germany. Also a different world view. "Weltanschauung" isn't exactly world view, yet close.
