The United States has a huge amount of untapped Tidal Energy potential. Especially in the northeast, northwest and in Alaska. Scotland is the current world leader in this technology. The US should catch up and take the lead...

@Driver2 Tidal power is very predictable and reliable. The amount of energy from the tide can be predicted centuries in advance. Also water turbines turn much slower than wind turbine so they shouldn't do damage to fish migration. There is a pilot project taking place now in Alaska and in the Cape cod canal in Massachusetts to study the environmental effects of tidal turbines. The damage to birds from windmills if mine are compared to from other sources.

Estimates of up to a million or more birds a year are killed by wind turbines in the US but that is far exceeded by collisions with communications towers (6.5 million); power lines, (25 million); windows (up to 1 billion); and cats (1.3 to 4.0 billion) and those lost due to habitat loss, pollution and climate.
