"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross” ~ Sinclair Lewis
"The greatest danger to America's future came from self-serving opportunism masquerading as patriotism" Nathaniel Philbrick referring to US traitor Benedict Arnold in "Valiant Ambition."
@PhoenixPhail That's OK; By all means avoid pedantic adverbalising when adjectives will do. I've got(ten) past writing 'car tyre' And 'kerb stone' :). But I detest deliberate mis-spelling and the creation of un-punctuated multiple ambiguities.
Hey, I do say 'OK' which would have got(ten) me a clip on the ear as a child.
@Really I cringe when I see things like 'car tyre' and 'kerb stone.' 😣 Just today, I saw someone write 'their' when she meant 'there.' And my pet peeve, is someone using 'was' when the correct passive verb is, 'were.'
But, I'm a grammar Nazi only for myself and don't correct other people's grammar. I just try to understand what they're trying to say, which isn't always easy. Oh, the ambiguities.
@PhoenixPhail See. if you grew up with tyre & kerb as proper spellings, which they were (still are?) in Britain, it takes years before tire & curb stop looking silly if not ignorant!
@Really As I correspond with people in the UK, my fingers have learned to insert a 'u' into words which the American versions don't include; neighbour, colour, honour.... It seems natural to me now.
