"Abortion isn't mentioned specifically anywhere in the Constitution."

Nor is it the the Bible, the book used to support the Christian moral outrage underneath this week's ruling. Or gay marriage, or interracial marriage, or...

Dangerous, dangerous precedent.
Neither is the word gun. Only arms. If we interpret it literally like they are doing you only have a right to your own apendanges.

@canusernamebemyusername And even then, it's only in the context of a well-regulated militia! So we can still cut your hands off if you're not in the military. 😂

Anyone who makes this ridiculous argument should be directed immediately to the 9th amendment. That was the underpinning of both Griswold and Roe.

Alito's tying this to the 14 amendment is pernicious and meant to create a clear pathway to attack other rights.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@luckranger71 I did.Its not cool that you're not accounting for basic arithmetic.Thomas was ONE vote;all of the others specifically said they wouldnt do that. And even if the others had some sort of miraculous change of heart,do you honestly belive that ANY legislator ANYWHERE in the country would ever go near ,for instance, same -sex marriage rights? Its not gonna happen!

@DavidT8899 Re-read my earlier post: Alito, Kavanaugh and Barrett lied about Roe v. Wade and their adherence to the principle of stare decisis under oath at their confirmation hearings. If they lied about going after Roe, they will lie about Obergefell, Griswold v. Connecticut, etc. Especially since Alito voted against Obergefell.

And yes, I can easily see Deep South states plus Texas, and certain Western states going after both same sex marriages and contraception, see Louisiana and Idaho.

@luckranger71 Well see how it goes.I rather suspect that Im right.

I expect the SW dimwits to make this argument, not a justice of the US supreme court.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Northwest Sure, because it's never happened before.
Nor is the right to self defense, or the right to rebel against government, even those things could more easily been enumerated.

I get where you're going, but I'm not so sure threatening these folks with logically consistent propositions is worth it.

When we can't even agree on facts, what do logical extensions matter?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MistyCee Nothing at all. The only things this group will understand are force or national shifts away from lunacy. As neither are forthcoming, well wait this part of dark history through.
Actually, the bible does mention abortion but the one case I know if specifically endorse it at least conditionally.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Debatable point, but I'll concede it.

Even so, (and this is no comment on you stance) it could outline very specifically in English modern text the reason abortion is specifically prohibited and sinful...and it wouldn't matter. This government does not include among its texts of governance the Holy Bible or any other religious text. What is says or indicates is 100% irrelevant in the arena of politics. Ideally.

Until someone in government can offer a better defense than political pushback or a "weak" argument, I will assume this is about removing power from women and using Biblical interpretations to do it. And if anyone thinks this is just about women's rights, they're once again pigeon-holing themselves. The government is at war with its citizens and it can't win if we use our collective voices.
@Graylight My point is the bible not only states abortion is okay but specifically recommends it for adultery as a form of punishment in Numbers 5:27.

My point is their own holy book states the exact opposite from their claimed justification.

As for religion in politics I am a pluralist, not a secularist. In most cases secularism is everyone in the room lying to each other including themselves.

One's core beliefs don't just magically stop at the door.
