Prayers ARE answered

Regarding the Texas problem:
Texas Could Secede From U.S. in 2023 as GOP Pushes for Referendum

Texas Republicans are pushing for a referendum to decide whether the state should secede from the U.S.

The demand for Texans to be allowed to vote on the issue in 2023 was one of many measures adopted in the Texas GOP's party platform following last week's state convention in Houston.

Under a section titled "State Sovereignty," the platform states: "Pursuant to Article 1, Section 1, of the Texas Constitution, the federal government has impaired our right of local self-government. Therefore, federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas should be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified.

We will never ever succeed. People only meantion it here and there as a fun tounge in cheek pep rally.
It is in fact unconstitutional to succeed.
@REMsleep Why is it against the Constitution for Texas to be successful? I get that they are losers, but I wasn't aware it was in the constitution for them to stay as losers.

@REMsleep True. The concept of a group of states thinking and acting like independent countries went out with the Articles of Confederation. Most Constitutionals historians consider the issue moot. Every state surrendered the right to leave the Union when it joined the Union in the first place.

“The legality of seceding is problematic. The Civil War played a very big role in establishing the power of the federal government and cementing that the federal government has the final say in these issues. When the Confederacy surrendered at Appomattox in 1865, the idea of secession was forever defeated. The Union’s victory set a precedent that states could not legally secede."
Eric McDaniel, University of Texas

Which makes it that much pettier and uninformed to add it to a ballot.

@Graylight Well I don't think that they are petty nor uninformed. They know exactly what they are doing. As I meantioned its a war cry or pep rally.

Texas was the only state which was fully its own nation for 9 years prior to joining the Union and we were actually doing well. We had relationships with other countries, trade, our own currency and all of that.
Because Texans know our value as a state ( We are one of the richest most profitable states) and because we actually could easily be an independent nation unlike other states such as Arizona or Utah. This is just a way for law makers to remind the voters of these points and let the voters know that they are super pro Texas and anti big government while knowing that it can never actually happen. Plus its fun!
Some of the public thinks that it can happen because we as an independent nation state voluntarily joined.

Fun fact if Texas seceded we would have the 10th largest GDP in the world.
Also alot of Texans fear Cali or NY type culture trying to take over the state because millions of those people are flooding here.

In other states if you put up a bill for this you would be seen as a joke most likely. In Texas it just means that you are a Texan through and through.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@REMsleep GDP for Texas would shift dramatically once they're trade partners with the US and subject to all its limitations. Not to mention oil is going to kill us. Fast.

No, I get it. It's a well-played dog whistle for the crowds, little different than lions battling wolves before the gladiators appeared. It's a way to keep the poison level just high enough to intoxicate without killing.

It's just near the lowest possible end of a spectrum of human evolution.
@REMsleep The millions of Californians moving to Texas are turning it blue.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@LeopoldBloom Ok yeah thats partly true especially in a few major cities. I don't care since I'm not a Republican but I am a proud Texan and our culture includes more than voting blocks. The system is rigged and I don't care for it at all.
@REMsleep I'm a Californian who moved to Georgia and am proud of helping turn that state blue.
@LeopoldBloom What the hell are you doing living in Georgia? Bunch of backward rednecks there.
@independentone Job promotion.

Because of the population, there are more redneck hillbillies in California than in the entire South combined. They're just outnumbered. And there are definitely fewer here in Georgia than before. I'm looking forward to Stacey Abrams as my governor and Raphael Warnock to continue as my senator. I'm also contributing to the Democratic congressional candidate in my district, who I happen to know personally.
