It's not unrelated. It was an example of a president losing an election and the courts deciding the outcome. Sort of a precursor to what Trump wanted to happen in 2020. There are differences, of course; it hinged on one state's results (Florida) and the cessation of further recounts. It was due to a very close result in a contested state, not the result of false accusations of fraud done preemptively to undermine the eventual result. But it is not unrelated.
