John Dean Blows A Giant Hole In The Republican Complaints About The 1/6 Committee
John Dean pointed out that witnesses who are testifying in front of the 1/6 Committee on Monday are Republicans, a fact that destroys the GOP’s witchhunt claims.

Dean told CNN’s Jim Acosta:

We actually know most of what these people have testified to or will testify to, because they either have stated it publically or they’ve actually testified over in the Senate in some preliminary proceedings over there, that aren’t quite the same focus as the January 6th committee.

So this is a strong, Republican-based witness list. This is not a bunch of Democrats speculating about what happened in the vote. These are Republicans who know what happened. So that’s why — that’s going to add power to the fact that this isn’t a partisan witch hunt, which is Trump’s principal defense, it seems.

Republicans like Rep. Jim Jordan and Donald Trump have been complaining that the 1/6 Committee is a witchhunt, but Dean was correct. The witnesses that the American people are hearing from are mostly Republicans. All of Monday’s witnesses are Republicans, which means that there is no partisan witchhunt. The 1/6 Committee is conducting a serious investigation into the events surrounding and during 1/6.

John Dean blew a hole in the primary Republican complaint about the hearings, as the GOP is running out of excuses and getting hammered with the truth.
I'm starting to get a little tired of Dean offering his insights on this situation, tbh.

Nixon's actions were a revelation to his party and the American people. Trump's weren't. For all his faults, Trump was always pretty obvious about his priorities and contempt for everyone and everything but himself.

What Nixon may have hidden, in terms of seeking personal loyalty over loyalty to the office, the nation and the Constitution, Trump was open and obvious about.

I get the motivations behind the Select Committee hearing, partisan and non-partisan, but I don't think we're going to see any dramatic moments where very many people are surprised or newly shocked by anything coming out, and the idea that this hearing might force Garland or Fulton County to act is at best, sad.
@Thinkerbell That's not all that far from what I'm saying. We could talk about why there's only one side on the Comittee, and rehash the whole Pelosi/McCarthy thing, but at the end of the day, there are no Trump loyalists asking questions, which is a big difference between this and Watergate.

I'm not quite convinced Garland is quite as partisan and unprincipled and will make his decision based on that as his "sole criterion," but I've no doubt that it will be perceived that way.

Then again, I always thought a 911 style Commission was a better plan for this mess.

@Thinkerbell Let's not forget WHY it is one-sided: the Republicans torpedoed the original plans for an independent bi-partisan committee modeled on the 9/11 Commission that would have kept Congress and other politicians at arm's length, and then when the House decided to go it alone with a thoroughly bi-partisan Select Committee, Kevin McCarthy sabotaged that effort by nominating mostly Republican Representatives who were persons of interest likely to be subpoenaed as witnesses.

@Thinkerbell Running against Trump proved quite effective in 2020. There's a lot of substance to it.
