Student loan debt forgiveness

My son works for a guy who owns a medium sized company (Electrician) and he was saying he took out a hundred thousand dollar loan to buy a few trucks and expand his business, he is still paying the loan off and thinks it would be awesome if his loan was forgiven. He didn't go to college so he has no student debt, but he still has debt... what do you think?

I think he borrowed the money and agreed to the terms and should pay his loan back per those terms. I feel the same way about student loans, both parties agreed to the terms of a legal contract, and each should fulfill their end of the bargain. I have sympathy for students that made poor choices but that is how we gain experience. I have a family member who decided late in life that she wanted to get a degree, borrowed tons of money, got a degree and now the debt is due. She chose a degree in a field with a very soft job market, and it will take years to get into a job where the financial gains will be worth it, and, she will be retired before the loans are paid off. Each person needs to think things through and be responsible for their choices.
