Should the ownership of guns be banned or restricted?

The ownership of guns is restricted. No one under the age of 18 can legally own a gun. No convicted felon or mentally ill person can legally own a gun.

Aside from this the second amendment of the constitution prevents the government from infringing on an American citizen’s right to keep and bear arms.

@TexChik Do 2nd amendment protections extend to non citizens who have legal residency in the US? How about “dreamers”? How about refugees legally in the US?
TexChik · F
@Cabernetfranc the constitution protects the rights of US citizens. Anyone living in the US is subjected to its rule of law, but the right to bear arms applies to citizens only.

@TexChik
You mentioned mentally ill people, not being legally allowed to own guns.
How come Donald Trump Jr has them?

🤔
TexChik · F
@Harriet03 Does he claim to be a woman in a man's body? Did he write on social media how he was going to kill people? Has he ever? Liberals never fail to disappoint when it comes to saying the ridiculous and the in appropriate. It must be a gift. And since you are on the subject of president's sons, I assume you approve of and support Hunter Biden and his actions?
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@TexChik So you're not going to address the point i made?
Typical!
You mentioned mentally ill people.
TexChik · F
@Harriet03 Donald Trump Jr has what? Guns ? So what ? He bought them legally . I bought mine legally . You can actually own guns in the US and not be a lib if you weren’t aware . Citizenship and a clean record is all that is required.

@TexChik Ownership isn't the issue - usage is the issue. Like a drivers licence - which is a contract you make between the relevant issuing authority and yourself which comes with terms and conditions. Gun ownership is the same, but in the USA gun laws vary state to state very widely, and the embedded culture is the other part of the big problem (which is what generates the lone-wolf home-grown terrorist mass-shootings).
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 Nonsense. The gun laws are fairly similar in each state. The oppressive gun laws in Illinois and Chicago have led to creating the most dangerous city in the world. Enforcing the law is much more important that making more new ones. Guns are not just laying around for someone to pick up. Ownership is the issue unless the gun is stolen by a criminal.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik The whole culture around guns in the USA, inc the 2nd Ammendment of the constitution, is the underpinning source of the problem.
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 clearly you are clueless about guns in America and have stooped to parroting CNN. While you and yours happily gave up your freedom, Americans will not. The Constitution is the law of the land in the US, and in it is the second amendment which protects out rights from an overreaching government. The way your thug police treated your people during your ridiculous covid lock down is a prime example. You are subjects to be punished and ruled. And much easier to be bullied when only the police and the government have guns.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik Guns have one purpose - to kill - possessing a gun does not confer 'license' to use a gun to kill. There have been no mass shootings in Australia since the last one (pt Arthur in Tasmania) in 1996 committed by Martin Bryant. We do not need guns in Australia nor want guns.
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 Speak for yourself, I have visited with lots of people from there that said the worst thing Australia ever did was to allow themselves to be subjugated by your increasingly oppressive government. Guns are also used for competitive shooting, marksmanship, hunting, as well as self defense. Guns do kill , but in the US, far more people die in traffic or from medical malpractice. I carry every day, and have for years. My gun has yet to kill anyone. But I am very well trained and an excellent shot. I understand your criminals still have guns. Nice of you to make it easy for them.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik Remember I said it's the 'culture' that's the underpinning problem - not the guns themselves. The believe in God and Guns. There's your main problem.
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 its only a problem for you. You have no idea what our culture is, only what you have been falsely told it was. Responsible , lawful gun ownership is a daunting responsibility and the law has plenty of teeth for those who do not take it seriously. Our main problem is the political left that does not want to enforce the law or punish the law breakers unless they are white. Democrats are everyone's problem. Our right to keep and bear arms are only a problem for those who want to hurt us or take away our freedom.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik Freedom is NOT free though - remember that. Every 'convenience' in life comes with a very big price. It's the classic Pearl of Great Price story. Wait until the USA gets a Chinese-style social credit system and enforced digital ID systems, and universal government-controlled electronic banking where you have no say in what you can and can't do, Italy is about to implement a social credit system, and Darwin here in Australia has it already (because Darwin is effectively a city 'sold out' to the Chinese by the former federal Australian Liberal/National aka Republican Trump-loving Party.
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 you want to lecture me about freedom when you bent over and just gave yours away? Freedom is never free and if it is not protected, there's a democrat just waiting to take it away from us.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik Sorry I gave nothing away. I have NEVER got jabbed for Covid and never will. I have NEVER got jabbed for flu and never will. I have NO credit cards, loands, etc and I never pay for in person purchases with anything except cash money. I NEVER actually vote in elections - I just get marked off the roll (except the one just gone as I wanted the fascist Liberal/National Trump-loving party out).
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 Trump is a liberal and a fascist? You really are brainwashed and clueless. The world was a much safer place when Trump was in office.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik Liberal in the US is totally different to Liberal here in Australia - in the USA you use 'Liberal ' to refer to the Democrats which are similar but not the same as our Labor party (which won government last weekend after 9 yrs of autocracy under the other mob). If Trump was in power the world would be in nuclear war with Russia - thank fuck that hasn't happened.
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 hahahaha...not hardly. If Trump was in power he wouldnt have gotten involved with the Ukraine issue. The Ukraine is corrupt and was hiding illegal bioweapons labs. Iran would not be a nuclear power and would still be happy to just be able to buy food. The middle east would be stable, the US would still be the largest exporter of oil and gas in the world and no one other than Germany would be buying Russian oil , thereby keeping the flow of war money out of russian hands. China would be held in check and the world would be a much safer and more stable place.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@TexChik Why should the USA be allowed to have nuclear weapons and not every other country in the world?
TexChik · F
@butterflybaby75 Really? Iran is stupid enough to use them . everyone else understands mutually assured destruction. To the iranian zealots , that sounds like fun
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
