Ok a question to the ban guns crowd .How do you plan on confiscating every single gun in the United States? How will you deal with violating the constitution? How will you know you got every single gun from public hands? Will people simply line up and hand over all weapins? Will you use military to force people? Seems to me it's impossible.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@kodiac Who has advocated confiscating every single gun in the US? I don't know of anyone who has proposed that. You're scaring yourself needlessly, or maybe that is the point--to go through life petrified unless massive firepower is within easy reach.

@kodiac I’m an advocate of strict gun control but not for banning guns. I feel gun control is consistent with the second amendment which doesn’t say gun ownership can’t be regulated. Nor is it specific to guns. We don’t have the unlimited right to bear (and use) nuclear arms or chemical weapons, for heavens sakes. So if we can restrict those we can restrict assault weapons, as just one example. And if we can limit criminals and the mentally ill from owning guns, then we can limit those who fail to pass training and safety classes, or to meet reasonable registration and licensing requirements. There is much that can be done within the framework of the second amendment.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Harmonium1923 All those things are already in place.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@windinhishair As long as there is one gun and one pyscho nothing has changed. Maybe getting rid of guns isn't the answer.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Harmonium1923 Exactly! And in the Heller v. DC Supreme Court decision in 2008, this issue of gun control was specifically addressed by the writer of the majority opinion, Justice Scalia, who wrote that gun control did not violate the Second Amendment. Every gun nut in the US should read that opinion, since it forms the basis for the current interpretation by the Court.

@kodiac So you see no difference between one gun and the 400,000,000 million we have right now in the US? Interesting.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@windinhishair There is no difference and what is your solution to the problem? Do you just blow hot air or do you have a workable solution?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@kodiac Try to follow along, as I know this is hard for you. One gun can only kill so many people. As incredible as it sounds, 400,000,000 guns can kill many millions of times more people. Of course there is a difference due to the increase in access to the small minority of people who commit these acts.

Restricting access to guns that are specifically designed to kill large numbers of people quickly and efficiently will reduce the number of mass killings. It will not eliminate them, since there are too many guns out there already. Improved mental health care in the US will also have a positive impact. So will universal background checks, which are supported by 80 to 90% of Americans. But we have to start somewhere, not throw our hands up or pretend that someone wants to take our toys away.

@kodiac Here are some common-sense changes that I believe would be within the second amendment:

1. Ban personal ownership of military-type weapons like assault rifles (but I'd define the categories quite broadly)--just as we ban personal ownership of nuclear/chemical/biological weapons. People can still bear arms, just not ones designed for mass killing.

2. Require all gun owners to register each firearm, like they do their cars, and to have a photo license that requires regular training and safety certification. We already ban categories of individuals from owning guns (felons and the mentally ill) so that can be extended to those who refuse to get proper training or follow safety requirements.

3. Remove the loopholes in gun sales whereby private sellers aren't required to conduct background checks.

Much more is needed, but this would be a good start.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@windinhishair Background checks are in place ,hmm how,s that working ? As far as i know full auto guns are illegal . How's that working ? One gun can kill unlimited number of people if there is no one there with a gun to stop them . If this pyscho had not been taken out by a gun the toll could have been hundreds. Try to follow along and admit you have no soultion.I assure you the guns i own are not toys .
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Harmonium1923 The first two are already in place. So that's not working.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@kodiac We do not have universal background checks. You are misinformed. About half of the gun sales in Texas last year did not go through background checks due to loopholes. And I wasn't talking about fully automatic weapons. Semi-automatic assault weapons are a weapon of choice. So you are just being disingenuous. Again.

Good guys with guns aren't a failsafe. Two good guys with guns were in the school yesterday in Uvalde when it was breached.

I gave you part of a solution. However, your misinterpretation and lying about it doesn't change it into a non-solution.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@kodiac You're wrong on that. Texas, to pick a timely example, does not require firearm registration, does not require an owner license, and down not have an assault weapon law. It does not require a permit for concealed or open carry and has no restrictions on magazine capacity. These state laws pre-empt any local restrictions that cities may wish to enact.

@kodiac
All those things are already in place.
Then how did an obvious lunatic in New York who had already written a fucking racist manifesto and talked all over social media about how he was going to shoot a bunch of black people simply walk into a gun store and buy one?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@kodiac you can’t, the criminals will still have them and the citizens won’t have them and won’t be able to defend themselves
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Harmonium1923 Then don't live in texas
kodiac · 22-25, M
@LordShadowfire Don't blame me if your system isn't working🤷‍♂️
@kodiac I do, though. I blame you and all your kind. You people with your lies about them evil libs coming for your guns are the ones who keep large caliber weapons easily accessible to the mentally ill.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@LordShadowfire How about we blame the bleeding heart libs who would raise unholy hell and probably riot if someone had said wow that trans dude is scary someone should keep an eye on him ??, Oh hell no we can't target a trans person wtf was i thinking?
@kodiac Was the white supremacist kid in New York a transgender person? You know, the one who wrote an entire racist manifesto about replacement theory? Was he a trans? No, he was a racist piece of shit who should have raised tons of red flags with his social media posts, but the fucking gun store owner just sold him a rifle. And you fuck heads try to blame liberals and sexual minorities.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@LordShadowfire ok fuckhead. What about the black supremacist that drove his car into a parade of senior citizens and children . Been arrested the week before long criminal history but libs say nope can't target him . Then the dipshit car dealer sold him a car that he used to kill. Guess we should ban cars huh?
@kodiac I was waiting for another one of you morons to bring up the car simile. It seems you guys don't know the difference between a car and a gun. Cars aren't designed to kill people.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@kodiac You're just petrified someone is going to take your manhood and guns away. But no matter how many you have, you're still going to be scared shitless to be without one for more than a few seconds.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@windinhishair Ha ha ,i don't have guns because I'm afraid . I have guns becaus3 i enjoy target shooting, in case of home invasion, but first and foremost for when some lib idiot like you decides to take them .I'm 21 years old you wanna talk about manhood lol.
