Do you remember a president named Ronald Reagan?

Reagan preached that government needed to get out of the way of business, that businessmen knew best how to run their businesses and regulation was nothing but a problem. And Reagan's acolytes taught that the purpose of a corporation was to maximize value for shareholders.

Turns out that for most American businessmen, the best way to run their businesses is to close domestic factories and offshore as much labor as possible - this lowers costs & prices and maximizes value for shareholders. And when businesses compete to lower prices by offshoring as much as possible, this practice is known as "capitalism."

And that, my friend, is globalization. Businesses being efficient is globalization. And governments letting businesses do that is what hollows out a nation's working class, leaving fewer and fewer people able to afford those wonderful products manufactured overseas. And any solutions to the offshoring of manufacturing involve government regulation. LOTS of government regulation.

SUMMARY: Businesses lowering costs ==> globalization.
