How is it possible that 77% of republican voters are still convinced the 2020 election was stolen?

Because 77% of Republican voters dont believe in Democracy as much as they believe in ruling. And thats fine with me. Just keep voting for the Titanic to stay afloat. The smart money is heading for the lifeboats.馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman where do you get you stats from ?
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@pdockal I am using the same numbers as the original post.. But it really doesnt matter what the number is. The posit holds true. Any Republican who still believes the election was stolen after all the audits and investigation have not turn up any election altering result doesnt believe is Democracy unless it favours them. And thats not how democracy works..馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman i believe (along with most people republicans & democrats i associate with outside the internet) that it was manipulated ... not one person I've asked thinks it was a fair ....
Think what would happen if it came out that it was indeed stolen
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@pdockal We agree it was manipulated. We just disagree about in favour of which side. But I'm sure that doesnt matter. As long as the right people win..馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman
That's a bad attitude
So you agree with NOT MY PRESIDENT ?
there needs to be voter reform (IDs required etc) but democrats don't want it which tells me THEY are dying the most fraud
Bushranger70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I had someone tell me in person this morning that there were lots of forged votes and proof that dead people had voted in the last election. Seems the conspiracy is alive in our country as well.
Bushranger70-79, M
@pdockal From what I've seen, your whole electoral system needs reform. In 50 years of voting at all levels of government, I've not once had to show any ID.
pdockal56-60, M
@Bushranger do you have a clue why there is an electoral system?
Are you American ?
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@Bushranger Of course it is.. And I am sure a handful of votes were manipulated. But nowhere near the numbers required to change a single result.. I believe we are fortunate to have compulsory voting. In that way the biggest single manipulation of the polls is eliminated in they no on can be denied a vote if they are entitled.馃樂
pdockal56-60, M
@whowasthatmaskedman compulsory ? Don't people have a choice to vote or not to vote
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@pdockal I just love when some clown assumes because a person was not a resident of America, it is assumed they know less about various aspects of American law, or History than a Citizen. Truth is strange, since your media and education system are so poorly run and many of the population learn their history from Movies and TV/ Or the commentary that passes for news. In other countries we are often better informed as our news and current affairs need to deal in actual facts. Not Hannity and Carlson.馃樂
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@pdockal No.. We understand that voting is a responsibility we accept as our side of the bargain of government. It is a legal requirement to register. And you can be fined for NOT voting. In fact . I have already postal voted, as we are not comfortable standing in a crowd in possible bad weather on the day. 馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman You can lodge an informal vote or not even fill the ballot paper out and leave it blank. You just need to get your name crossed off to show you have been given ballot papers.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@KiwiBird Yes. But you have to"show up". And having done so the vast majority express an opinion . And importantly, no party has the right to make voting difficult for you . You are opted in and have to make the effort to NOT vote..馃樂
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@pdockal Another US right wing intellectual heard from. 馃樂
Bushranger70-79, M
@KiwiBird I was just about to make that point. Voting itself isn't compulsory, but turning up is. But @whowasthatmaskedman is right, once people are there, the majority cast a valid balot.

Our system has its faults, but it is a simpler and fairer one than used in the US. To the best of my knowledge the only groups disenfranchised are prisoners serving I think mre than five years and non-citizens. The idea of disenfranchising groups because of how they may vote is anathema to Australians.

@Bushranger @whowasthatmaskedman

Over the ditch Voting isn't compulsory but you have to be enrolled. Voter turnouts have been increasing.

2011 74.2%
2014 77.9%
2017 79.8%
2020 82.2%

PS Over the ditch for the US viewers is God's own country. Aotearoa aka New Zealand
Bushranger70-79, M
@KiwiBird Do you think there's a correlation between social/economic issues and increased voter turnout?
Bushranger70-79, M
@KiwiBird It would be interesting to see if there has been a corresponding decline in Australian 'donkey' votes over the same time frame.
KiwiBird36-40, F
@Bushranger 2020 Covid was here....but we weren't sick or tired of it then....probably scared. Recent polls suggest a change of government back to National is likely.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@KiwiBird Probably the only place I would consider leaving Oz for.馃樂
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@KiwiBird Well if you have finished with Jacinta just send her over here...PLEASE!馃樂
Bushranger70-79, M
@KiwiBird Yeah, don't just throw Jacinta away. We could do with a genuine politician over here. Unfortunately I think we are following the US far to much.
KiwiBird36-40, F
@Bushranger "genuine politician" now that is an Oxymoron. Aunty Cindy is Genuine, ScoMo is a Politician....and Anal is a poster boy for Jenny Craig and Specsavers.
