So what do you think of Trump saving those Carrier jobs in Indiana?

Is intervening in a free market economy the right thing to do?

PS : I know this will invite a wide range of response. Would appreciate all comments to be civil and polite.

I can't criticize him for doing what he can to save jobs

At what cost though?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@Distancerunner: Do you remember the billions and billions spent on bailouts? this is a billion times less costly

@ImAFreeSpirit: so, you are ok, with a little corporate welfare then?

I hated the too big to fail bullshit...greedy bastards..
Let them work ...
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@Distancerunner: I don't consider a tax break corporate welfare. They are creating capital and employing people who will not be collecting welfare while producing nothing.

@ImAFreeSpirit : its a handout to business...pick your euphemism...

@Distancerunner: Are you against "handouts" to everyone or just business
SW-User
@ImAFreeSpirit: I don't like the idea of either...however, we are a nation of better than 300million.
It's not realistic to think
We would be able to phase out either..

I do know that there are budget shortfalls in many states..
Infrastructure is deteriorating...
Crime and drugs are a problem
... schools are underperforming..
Charter schools are a joke..
And yet, we can somehow manage to find money to subsidize a business.
.... welfare

Could you tell me off hand the amount of subsidies given by the government to business compared to personal welfare?

Per think by the numbers.org
The 2015 numbers

92 billion spent on corporate subsidies

Not a math major, but...

Thanks to the results of a study from the University of California at Berkeley, we now have a more accurate idea of exactly how much funding these programs require. Many have hostile attitudes toward SNAP, unemployment insurance, and other programs, and if you’re going strictly off the price tag, it does look like there’s room to be concerned.

The total? $152.8 billion annually.
