The idea that anyone can be “proven” a good or bad President is ludicrous. It’s a matter of opinion.
bijouxbroussard · F
@MartinII It was the opinion of a majority in our country that we didn’t want him for a second term, from members of both parties.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Indeed it was, which is my point. Of course, a fairly large minority took a different view.
bijouxbroussard · F
@MartinII True, but as Trump himself has pointed out, "close doesnt count".
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard But in one sense it does count. Which is why I feel uncomfortable whenever someone asserts that one thing, or one person, is indisputably right or wrong, whatever their political persuasion. In a democratic context, anyway. Obviously there are historical, even contemporary, examples to the contrary.

@MartinII But what you didn’t notice was that I agreed with you, in fact. You said:
It’s a matter of opinion.
To which I replied that the opinion of a majority of our voters (in both popular vote and our electoral college) that he wasn’t to remain president. That’s a matter of record. Trump even filed 28 suits attempting to dispute the matter and lost every one.

@bijouxbroussard He has blood on his hands as he instigated the White house invasion during whichpeople died

@bijouxbroussard I did notice, and I think I said so. But a minority opinion isn’t invalid, or to be ignored. It just hasn’t carried the day. I hope I would respect your opinion no less if a Republican were to win in 2023.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Jamesy He did-pure hubris. He could not accept the fact that he lost. The time and money he wasted trying to claim that the results were fraud, and then urging those people to march on the Capitol—it was ridiculous. The GOP is still shielding him. Anyone else would be in prison already.

@MartinII The next election isn’t until 2024, but while I don’t vote Republican, there are a couple of Republicans who could win and I might not feel like the sky is falling. Trump is not one of them.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Yes, sorry, of course it’s 2024.
