It's definitely important to the media right now. Whether or not Ukrainians are valued more than other groups isn't something that can be accurately measured right now, there is a MASSIVE propaganda campaign highlighting their current plight and forcing a divide between them and Russia.

@SumKindaMunster Makes you think doesn’t it.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz It does, yes. But I like to consider WHY this would be, and try to determine what specifically the media is trying to promote, I mean obviously continued sanctions on Russia, and further support for Ukraine...but also...blaming this for the further increase in inflation...moving the "outrage brigade" from Covid 19 to Ukraine...and other things as yet to be determined...
@SumKindaMunster That may well be a fair assessment

@SumKindaMunster Munster - I think you've nailed it.

Agreed. They want us to forget they made covid what it is/was. @SumKindaMunster

@SumKindaMunster 'there is a MASSIVE propaganda campaign highlighting their current plight and forcing a divide between them and Russia.'
What do you mean by that ? Propaganda by whom , and to what end ?

@LegendofPeza Oh right, like I'm going to give you a straight answer.
You've been a condescending turd to me for at least a year now, why should I give you the courtesy of a genuine answer?

@SumKindaMunster Oh I dunno , to have a sensible conversation for once , without trading insults ?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@LegendofPeza Why? What changed?
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster War is a serious business. I'm not here to demean anybody.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@LegendofPeza Hm ok. Well I feel like I already answered your question with my previous statements:

@SumKindaMunster I'm in the middle of dinner right now but I will get back to you.
jackjjackson · M
Don’t worry Neville Biden has the whole thing figured out. @SumKindaMunster
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
@LegendofPeza Ok. So when you talk about the media here , you are specifically talking about media outlets in the US , I'm assuming.
But you are suggesting that it is somehow propagandastic of them to report the suffering of the Ukranian people ; 'forcing a divide between them and Russia.' You don't think that the indiscriminate Russian bombing is more likely to be the cause of that , rather than the media's reporting of it ?
And your last point that it might be about a distraction from Covid or an excuse to pin inflation on , I'm just not following at all , hence my original query.

@LegendofPeza I'm speaking of Western media outlets, not just the US although they are likely leading the charge.
Not at all, my point is not to say Russia is behaving appropriately here, rather I am calling out the massive and unending campaign on social media campaign forcing the divide between the two nations. I have little concern for either country and I am willing to bet you didn't give a crap about Ukraine until it became the dominating issue on the news feed just a few weeks ago.
That doesn't mean I support Russia, but the fact that I need to explicitly state that shows my point. The divide is being foisted upon us, and the expectation is that you either unequivocally support Ukraine or you must be a Russia stooge.
If indiscriminate bombing is what concerns you, were you concerned when the US and Russia had competing bombing campaigns in Syria? Do you care that the US is funding Saudi Arabia's military campaign including bombing and drone strikes in Yemen against the Iranians? Do you care that the US still has forces in Syria and continue to operate there? Do you care about the Israelis brutal campaign of apartheid against the resident Palestinians?
The point simply being, people are being conditioned to become obsessed with the war in Ukraine and this is convenient for TPTB as it is obvious they are winding down whatever you want to call the "war against the unvaccinated" and don't want to answer any tough questions about that. Inflation is similar, the war in Ukraine is a great excuse for the price of gas rising into the stratosphere, and gives the Dems and Biden a handy excuse as to why they aren't able to bring the prices down.

@SumKindaMunster 'I am willing to bet you didn't give a crap about Ukraine until it became the dominating issue on the news feed just a few weeks ago.' - Well you'd lose that bet. As someone who lives in central Europe , I've been concerned with what's been going on in Ukraine since Maidan (2014) and the annexation of Crimea (2018). This tragedy has been a while in the making , and comes as no surprise to most of us here.

Do you care that the US still has forces in Syria and continue to operate there? Do you care about the Israelis brutal campaign of apartheid against the resident Palestinians? - The answer to all those questions is Yes. With the caveat that I'm actually far more concerned about what Russia has been doing in Syria for the last ten years than anything the US is doing , and what we are seeing now in Ukraine is an absolute carbon copy of that calamity.
'TBTP' - ?
And you are really saying that Biden and the Democrat party in the US are using this as a cover for rising inflation , when inflation worldwide had been going through the roof long before this war started ?

@SumKindaMunster Yes, Russia is putting out a massive propaganda campaign against Ukraine. Also, Putin has been implementing strict authoritarian measures to control the population in Russia.
The world would be a much safer place without Putin in it.

I'm not talking about being "concerned" everyone's been concerned since Russia annexed Crimea. Were you supporting Ukraine and Russia's ongoing meddling in their affairs in the last 10-20 years? If so, please point me to the posts where you expressed that concern and your discussion around it.
TPTB: The Powers That Be, a shorthand saying for whomever is in charge, calling the shots on this.
Yes, and if you care to remember, the Biden administration was poo pooing the rate of inflation all last year saying it was temporary. Well let me just tell you that inflation is not "temporary" it builds and is self reinforcing.
Biden and the Dems can't wait any further for it to wane, they need to get their messaging out now for the 2022 midterms and everyone is now paying attention to Russia/Ukraine and they are ready to cast the blame, if they haven't already started.

@SumKindaMunster First you said you weren't concerned about Ukraine and now you say everyone's been concerned ?
There are lots of things that concern me , fortunately I don't feel a need to spew about them all on social media.
'The powers that be ' ...... and who might they be ?

It doesn't matter, it just refers to whom is in charge.
Your summary of my point is completely inaccurate.
I'm sorry my request for you to provide some depth and background regarding your support of Ukraine wasn't able to be fulfilled.
Alas. 🤷♂️
Anything else?

@SumKindaMunster The only divide between Ukraine and Russia is the one Putin is responsible for. The US media has nothing to do with that.
TheSentinel · M
@Lila15 Agreed. When you launch an unprovoked attack on a nation, that tends to cause a divide.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Lila15 @TheSentinel Uh huh. And you don't find comments about World War 3, Nuclear annihilation, and the biggest war in Europe since WW2 just a tiny hyperbolic? Were you this concerned when the US and Russia faced off on competing bombing runs in Syria just a few years ago?
I suppose there is no proof either way, but perhaps when some time passes and this situation calms down you may see things differently.

@SumKindaMunster I don't pay attention to that. Putin and the people around him don't want WWIII any more than we do. But both sides exaggerate. Remember when Hasbro revamped Mr. Potato Head and conservative media was acting like it was the end of American society? Or in 2020 when conservative media presented the George Floyd demonstrations as "burning down America" for "months?" The media is good at focusing on one thing and blowing it way out of proportion.
I'm not saying there's no chance whatsoever of a nuclear holocaust. There are people more informed than both of us who study this and assess how close we are to one. So the media takes that and runs with it, same as they did with the demonstrations, where a few violent incidents were presented as if every demonstration was like that. Or a toy company revamping a product was confusing kids into not knowing what sex they were.

All this is making me wonder whether when we’re told the Russian people are lied to by the government whether the Russian people are told that we are being lied to by the government. It seems like almost every day it becomes harder to find out trustworthy facts beyond what I see and hear myself and what those I rely on see and hear. What are your thoughts on this please?@SumKindaMunster @Lila15
