I got to thinking how Russians have a history as Chess players

And then I got to thinking. If I was one of Putins Military leaders who didnt like the direction strong man Putin had been taking the country, what could I do about it?
Could I wait for a time when he needed to look strong for the people by taking over a neigbbour who has some stuff Putin needed to balance the books, then maybe encourage him the other guys would be easybeats. Could I encourage him to send his second string troops who werent exactly motivated or supplied with the latest kit.. Maybe supply them only for the short sharp Victory Putin expected. Make some tactical errors that looked bad on Camera for negative publicity and then make sure they dont have the best air cover, or even the fuel and food to stay in the field if needed. Then wait for the fall out from outraged countries to really upset the local populace.. Then come into The Kremlin with my fresh local troops and explain to Putin that it was time to retire...immediately..
If I thought like that, I would be pleased with how things were goi9ng about now..
Just sayin'

None of the WWII German military leadership could pull that move off. Who was the general who got as far as a briefcase bomb into Hitler's lair?

@whowasthatmaskedman Ludwig Beck. Led the July Plot to get rid of Hitler and failed.

@dancingtongue Oberst Claus von Stauffenberg was the guy who put the bomb there.

@SomeMichGuy Yeah, that is the guy I was thinking of. Thanks. General Beck, who was head of the Wehrmacht at one time whom Hitler would not listen to, was the head of the plotters.

@dancingtongue Yes, there were several attempts before von Stauffenberg.

(There were a lot more known ones than I had previously realized; see, e.g., https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assassination_attempts_on_Adolf_Hitler)
