There is a lot to go into here which can be argued.
The unarguable difference is that the uprising was an attempt to overthrow a government and overturn an election. It was also directly inspired by the outgoing President.
Some have tried to downplay it using semantics (instead of false equivilance) by saying it was not a coup. It wasn't a coup d'etat because the dictionary definition says that this is something organised. How well organised it was is less important than the intent.
