@StrawberryMilkshake I would have to disagree, those low-paying jobs are supposed to be "entry level" positions and not life long careers! But, there are always the lazy ones that won't make the effort to better themselves. The opportunities are there, they just have to take advantage of them.

Part of what a laid off person receives is "unemployment insurance", paid by a fund partially funded by the State, and partially by the employers. This is not enough to live off , and is only meant to be enough to tide a person over until they get their next job. Now, because of the covid thing, the federal government has been giving a supplement in addition to the State payments, and people are taking advantage and collecting all they can despite the fact that there are "help wanted" signs everywhere, with raises in pay, and hiring bonuses!
