It seems MAGA types fear the future and want to go backwards rather than forwards the result of demographic changes in the US with fewer whites.

No, making America great again has nothing to do with being white or race in general. In fact, i would say that aside from a few idiot extremist on the fringe, real MAGA supporters aren't obsessed with or pushing any sort of racial agenda, unlike those who speak out against them.
MAGA is about returning America to power and prosperity,taking back our nation's role as a global leader.
You call them backward. Take a very good look around you at America today, where it's currently headed, all the growing issues we are going through now. If this is forward, give me backward any day of the week.

That may be what the rank and file Trump supporter would like to tell themselves MAGA is all about....but if one looks at it in fact.....you will see a whole different story. Nothing about the attack on the Capital was about anything that deals with prosperity....or making us a global leader. The U.S. has been a global leader...and will stay one....for years in the past and years to come and that don't depend on Biden or Reaguns or Trump. It depends on the fact that oil is priced with the dollar as the standard. It's because of military superiority. It's because of trade policies....relationships with allies...our standing with the UN and about half a dozen other things that matter to the world.....not a handful of people who worship an ex-TV host. So making Ameria "great again" was nothing more than a slogan designed to fire up a lot of people who by how they vote (largely) have limited how they live and what they will ever have in life....who think if we elect an ex-Tv host suddenly they will all be millionaires....while still living in house trailers.
That's not hate rhetoric. It's truth. If one looks at Red States.....they have the lowest per capita income of all states....Alabama.....Mississippi....Tennessee....Kentucky. All are huge federal handout states. The Rust Belt states.......Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio......all have destroyed industrial bases.........largely because of legislation pushed at those folks for years by a party that cares more about their own power and wealth than they do about those they represent. The highest welfare states and counties in the U.S. are all Red states and counties. It's not hard to fathom some Red Staters feel left behind...but who in their Red state electorates helps those STATES change that? Did you see Virginia's and West Virginia's governors get involved to help coal miners when the mines have dwindled and closed over the last 15 years? Did you see McConnell doing anything to help the social problems....the poverty problems in his own state? In fact if you drive thru parts of Kentucky...Alabama....Louisiana...Mississippi you'd swear you were in a 3rd world country. No doubt you all have the dream better is out there.......but electing more of the same that put you where you are in a poor choice for how to do that. In all 4 years in office....what did Trump and his all Republican congress pass that actually benefitted.....YOU? Be honest. You---all of us paid 25% taxes on everything we bought for 4 years...courtesy of the tariffs. You didn't get the tax cut you were promised if you elected him. The rich did...but YOU didn't. You never got better healthcare. It was promised...but you didn't get it. The market..if you're in it....crashed 19 times to match the dips we last saw in 1929-32. Overall in 4 years the average investors portfolio could not offset those losses to show a 4 year net gian that even came close to historical norms for returns. Not what Trumpers want to hear...but it true.
As far as the world stage........Trump unpredictability in terms of leadership caused more world doubt and lack of confidence in us that he created. Allies relationships suffered. Investments in U.S. securities dropped. Farmers got hurt so badly they had to be given $26 million in bribes to bail them out. Things eroded with China...Iraq Nuke Agreements...causing instability in that region. The world watched us abandon our allies in Turkey. Saudi Arabia killed Americans but faced no retribution because Trump wanted them to be trade partners in arms. The world position of the U.S. suffered while trump was in....despite what FOX told you........and even FOX ended up abandoning Trump because of his continued lies and failed promises. Plus he turned on them.....just as he did when he turned his back on the ones he sent to the Capital to keep HIM in power.
Trumpers thought they were "taking back America"...Trump told them that on Jan 6th. But America never went anyplace to be taken back. All that happened was a new president got elected....like has been happening for 240+ years. Trump was the one being kicked to the curb so he lied to his cult to make them think they were taking power back for themselves..........but who would have ended up in power? You all? Or him?? And when you all started to be arrested and sent to jail for doing his bidding........did he bail you out? Pardon you as he led you all to believe he would? As with most of our issues in America today, it is emotionally and media driven using false information, half truths and exaggerations from both sides.
The second point is, there is nothing quite like being told who you are, what you stand for and believe, and why by those who oppose you, and make no attempt to understand you.

@PrivateHell I do agree with some of what you say. I think everyone in America agrees with "some" of what others say......whether they admit it or not. "Perception" of what truth is, is 100% responsible for the divide we see in America. Truth anymore is based on if I tell this lie long enough...eventually it will SOUND true.......but a lie is still a lie no matter how many times you tell it. I worked for the NSA for quite a while. If one knows what "Kompramat" is..and studies it...the Russians published papers on its effectiveness back in the 1950's that says the main reason propaganda (lies) works is human nature. If the same lie is repeated over and over and over to an audience that is receptive to hearing a lie, in as little as 30 days you will NEVER be able to convince that audience ever again that what they now believe is a lie. We have seen the effectiveness of lies...repeated lies...with "the big steal" lie that went on from 2016 to present. Back in 2016 just days after being elected trump started....."if I lose in 2020....there will be fraud to cause it." Go back and listen to his rallies on Youtube. That lie drummed over and over and over into the minds of those who idolized him became truth TO THEM long before 2020. To those that was not receptive to those lies..could see thru them...could see why they were being told......they were seen as lies immediately--and never believed. So when you say "preceptions" causes the issues we are now seeing.....you are right on the money. If one group believes lies.....because they want too......and one group can say I KNOW that's a lie and I can prove it....there will always be two sides fighting.
Your second point...not so clear. Judgement of the "other side" is based on what we see and hear out of them. That is just life. If we see a girl on a street corner in the middle of the night dressed so her pussy shows......we don't have to know who she is or what she stands for to know she is hooking. If we see a man wearing a police uniform we don't have to know him personally to know he is a cop...who represents the law. So when we see a group of people cheering after a girl was run over and killed in Charlottesville..."normal" people can't relate to that. And yet how many who voted differently loved it when that happened in Charlottesville? How many do you know or have talked too could completely relate to those that drove over her? How many times did you hear "she had it coming"? Ditto when a group of thugs smeared shit on the walls of the Capital, beat 2 cops to death with a flag poles.....set up a gallows with a sign on it that said we want to find and hang Pence.
It don't take personally knowing those people to know they belong in jail for as long as we can possibly keep them there. Those people....the prostutute...don't need me to understand them to know what they're about.
