It might compromise the effectiveness of the vaccine.
No one is saying it can't be done but the patent owners want compensation.

@Muldoon @scooogy President probably has the right to join the international movement to waive recognition of other countries' patents related to COVID-19, which is what is being discussed. Waiving U.S. patents within the U.S. probably will require an act of Congress.

@SW-User Implementing an existing international law on recognition of intellectual property, which is what is under discussion, is in the Presidential realm, not the judiciary's. Whether he needs two-thirds of the Senate's approval for a waiver, since the treaty already exists, could be debatable.
