Obviously a few people had compassion and felt bad, but the whole slavery thing was done when it was strategic and there was a benefit from it. This world still works that way with new methods of slavery, sadly

@Babylon If you really study history and economics of the times, the North industrialists wanted the South to only produce raw cotton for a cheap price and the North make it into fabric and clothing. When the South decided to purchase machinery from England to produce fabrics from their own cotton the North was not happy and prevented the South from getting that equipment. The slave were actually a minor issue but was promoted as a way to attack the South as anti slavery was a popular issue for the Northern snowflakes. After the supposed freeing of the slaves in the South after the Civil War the Northern industries still had slave working in their factories. What people also do not understand that blacks were not the only part of slavery as Chinese and Irish were often used as slaves after the Civil War working in mines and on railroads.
