Would you support lockdowns for the unvaccinated ?

Austria is days away from ordering millions of unvaccinated people to stay at home, its chancellor has said, in a rare move that underscores the increasing exasperation of European leaders towards those who have not yet been inoculated against Covid-19.

Under Austria's plan, which was agreed in September, unvaccinated Austrians will face a stay-at-home order once 30% of intensive-care beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients. The current rate is 21%, according to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), and a surge in infections has pushed it up quickly.

Unvaccinated people are already excluded from entertainment venues, restaurants, hairdressers and other parts of public life in Austria. If the new measures come into place, the unvaccinated will be ordered to stay home except for a few limited reasons; the rules will be policed by officers carrying out spot checks on those who are out.

Around 65% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lower rates in the European Union.
''It is clear that this winter will be uncomfortable for the unvaccinated," Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg warned on Thursday.

No. That as far as I’m concerned is an overreach of a government whether it’s Austria, the United States or anywhere else.
@soar2newhighs When did freedom of choice become freedom from responsibility for your choices and actions?
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I’m not vaccinated which is my choice. People disagree with it -that’s their right but if they want to get vaccinated there’s no guarantee they won’t get infected. Stop blaming those of us who have not been vaccinated. We’re not responsible for the virus, and we’re expected to trust these rushed vaccines? I don’t think so. As I said, as we’ve seen with a very prominent Biden official, Psaki who was “ fully vaccinated” but still got infected. You going to blame her now that she’s been infected?
But if you’re of the mindset we ( unvaccinated) need to be locked down) take your best shot ( no pun intended).
@soar2newhighs Again, when did you suddenly get the right to freedom from consequences for your decisions and actions? That is not how it works.

Objectively speaking the unvaccinated are responsible for continued outbreaks. That is just objectively true. Not my fault if you don't like that or feel you should never have to deal with consequences for your choices.

And again, you clearly don't understand how vaccines work. They are medicine, not magic. They are designed to reduce the likelihood of life threatening symptoms. There is an added benefit of dramatically reducing infection and transmission rates but literally nobody is claiming 100% effectiveness. That doesn't exist anywhere in the real world.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow My choice. You telling me I have to get vaccinated? Won’t happen.
If you’re vaccinated you still are able to be infected, correct? So if this befell you would you remain locked down ( being made to?))
That was the initial post question..lockdowns . And would it apply to only unvaccinated or would those vaccinated but who still got infected, be treated differently?
@soar2newhighs Again, you can choose not to get vaccinated. But don't whine when there are consequences for your choices.

Again it is technically possible. Nobody has ever claimed otherwise but the possibility of transmission is reduced by about 90% according to the latest studies. Plus it drastically reduces life threatening symptoms.

So your the comparison makes no sense.

Those who are vaccinated and are infected should also be quarantined for obvious reasons. Particularly with so many people choosing not to get vaccinated.

If you get covid, you should absolutely be locked down - we tend to call that “self isolate”. And when covid rates and hospitalizations gets bad enough, everyone goes into lockdown.

Austrians are putting in a middle tier to target the dumbest and most dangerous part of their population, and I’m curious to see how well it works. It’s a good idea.
@QuixoticSoul ... absolutely locked down? Who are you to espouse that? You some kind of medical genius? Being “locked down” is not the same as self isolate which is a personal choice.

And one can say, “ I’m going out!” Then what? The covid police forcefully bringing the person back to “ self isolate”?

Sorry, but you won’t see such here in this country, though you probably would support it.
Not happening, skip, so get over it.
@soar2newhighs Actually it is functionally the same thing. Just some people have the common sense to do what is right without it being enforced by law.

Again, you are free to make decisions, but not free of consequences which seems to be what you really want. So much for personal responsibility.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow whatever you believe is fine by me.
@soar2newhighs You are falling 2 new lows.

@QuixoticSoul Get pinched? They “pinch” people where you are? And what exactly is “pinching”. Sounds like something outbid a 40s gangster movie.
They have a list or lists of who is supposed to be staying at home for covid?
If an individual has covid they’ll decide whether or not to stay home. Not a police or federal function.
@SomeMichGuy You’ll get over it. Don’t let those of us unvaccinated cause you concern and angst. If you’re vaccinated fully you know you can still get infected, not that I wish that on you. Just saying.
How many have had it and got over it and we’re not vaccinated? Do they have antibodies? Will they spread it?
Don’t let this get you worked up. Have a good night.
