Would you support lockdowns for the unvaccinated ?

Austria is days away from ordering millions of unvaccinated people to stay at home, its chancellor has said, in a rare move that underscores the increasing exasperation of European leaders towards those who have not yet been inoculated against Covid-19.

Under Austria's plan, which was agreed in September, unvaccinated Austrians will face a stay-at-home order once 30% of intensive-care beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients. The current rate is 21%, according to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), and a surge in infections has pushed it up quickly.

Unvaccinated people are already excluded from entertainment venues, restaurants, hairdressers and other parts of public life in Austria. If the new measures come into place, the unvaccinated will be ordered to stay home except for a few limited reasons; the rules will be policed by officers carrying out spot checks on those who are out.

Around 65% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lower rates in the European Union.
''It is clear that this winter will be uncomfortable for the unvaccinated," Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg warned on Thursday.

Some can always find justification to segregate those who don't share the same opinions. If you can lockdown those who refuse a vaccination for any reason (previous infection, health reasons, religious beliefs, distrust of the government, distrust of the technology used for the vaccine) what other things can be mandated? If we no longer have rights to what risks we are willing to take (for a disease with a 99 or better percent chance of survival) or risk punishment for defying orders that take away our choice, what rights do we have?

Triage is part of medicine and means when resources are limited, you help those with the best chance of survival. Not by isolating by risk factors.

@sunrisehawk Simpler to just avoid triage situations to begin with. Full ICUs across the country is a national emergency, akin to a war. Rights get curtailed during those too.
@sunrisehawk Nobody is taking your rights away. But you don't have a right to no consequences for your choices.
@sunrisehawk And please stop with the 99% survival rate bullshit. That doesn't even work mathematically. If that were true the US would be at 350k dead. It is more than double that number.
@sunrisehawk Actually, quarantines have been part of medicine for hundreds of years too.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Locking people down into their homes isn't taking away rights?

If a person has no co-morbidities it is 99% survivalability. Those that have underlying health issues are the ones at danger.

And so has the practice of bleeding. But that has no real connection to this post. Quarantines have generally been used for diseases that had a high probibility of death and high rates of infection. They were used when there was a reason to suspect the individuals were expoused. Never just because they weren't vacinated.
@sunrisehawk No, because it is a direct result of those choices. You have freedom of choice not freedom from the consequences of your choices.

Again, the math doesn't work. Get over that myth. And FYI, there is no such thing as a human being without any underlying conditions so that is a meaningless distinction.

And there is a reason why quarantines are still used and bleeding stopped in the 1600s. You seem to be conveniently ignoring that fact.

750k dead. Have you been asleep? What is your definition of high death rate? 100% fatalities? How many people have to die before it meets your arbitrary line?

And your claims about the criteria for quarantines is just factually wrong.

@sunrisehawk 99% survivability is millions of dead Americans, and the reason you haven’t seen another disease taken this seriously in your lifetime is because this is the single worst public health crisis you have ever lived through - you’re just in denial about it.

Or just get vaccinated and go on with your life.
