@MethDozer Back home in Serbia, there's still a fairly active communist party, and all of its members despise Muslims.

But then again I feel like that's mostly thanks to Milosevic and Babic...

@MethDozer I love studying it because there's a surprisingly wealth of good ideas that went into it. There's just as many bad ideas, but it's good to rescue gems when you can.

@MethDozer Lol no, saiga is a species of unusual looking antelope native to Siberia. They were almost entirely wiped out but strict conservation efforts by the Soviet Union restored their numbers and health to where it had once been. Because of that, it's become a meme that saigas are staunch supporters of the USSR. Sometimes you see people edit images of saigas so that they're wearing Russian [i]ushanka[/i] hats and carrying bottles of vodka.

Jokes aside, they really are quite remarkable, and weird, animals.

@AuRevoir They do indeed have a very bizarre looking trunk. It's much larger and more accentuated in males. The purpose of the trunk is primarily to warm the frigid air that they breathe before it enters their lungs. Having such huge nostrils surrounded by layers of fat means that their noses heat up the air as they inhale. Male saigas also waggle their faces back and forth, creating a very strange squishing noise, which is used to communicate certain things or attract mates.

@AuRevoir Not sure it sounds like fapping. To me it sounds more like shaking a plate of jello back and forth really fast.

It's still pretty weird though.
