Everyone laughs at Trump's version of Thomas Jefferson, but is the nation that Jefferson founded finally going out of style, or not?

Jeffersonian Democracy was a nation of small "yoeman" farmers. He also could never bring himself to oppose slavery. Jefferson's big philosophical opponent was Hamilton and the federalists. Jefferson's party defeated the federalists, then splintered into two parties; one of which evolved into the current Democratic party; the other was eclipsed by Lincoln's Republican party.

So I think it's fair to say Jefferson's vision was dead by the end of the Civil war. However, we still remember Jefferson Airplane, so there's that!
