What do you mean by mercy? What is it someone would seek mercy for?
Just like any significantly sized group of humans there will be those that do and those that don't.
Your average leftist isn't looking to assign blame or make anyone feel guilty. Your average leftist is not looking to punish.
They seek for people to admit and accept that there are problems that need to be fixed. And most solutions do not even require punishing anyone.
Most leftists are reformative, some are revolutionary, only a small amount are retributive.
