The Confederate government stood for extreme racism, but there genuinely are some people who fly it out of ignorance instead of malice. And there are also contexts in which it's appropriate, such as Civil War Reenactments.

@Carla Ignorance actually is an excuse and is quite a proper one in our society.
We literally let people have government jobs who believe in Zombie Jews and Talking Snakes, after all. Don't tell me "ignorance" isn't excusable.

@MickRogers @Carla I think it's moreso explanation than excuse. Like yeah people shouldn't be ignorant of history, but it's less incriminating than supporting racism and slavery.
