Why do liberals care more about helping refugees than they do for veterans?

There's a difference between supporting war and supporting veterans. While neither party particularly has clean hands, democrats are significantly less likely to support offensive wars and more likely to support benefits for veterans. Frankly though, both parties support bringing in refugees from Afghanistan (probably on account of the fact that a lot of those Afghans cooperated with the US).
