Why would they be mutually exclusive? And why would you paint an entire group of people with vaguely similar ideology as one organism?
The VA, those helping veterans and adjunct veterans programs are full of democrats, Republicans, liberals and ex-military.
The problem with the Veterans Administration is that it's the largest bureaucracy in the country, constructed largely out of GOP ideals and Republican "small government" techniques. It's literally too big to do its job.
But since you're advocating help for veterans, let us know what you're doing and maybe we can emulate that.

@Graylight As an outsider looking at it just by the publicly available numbers and customer satisfaction surveys it would seem the bigger issue is the GOP "defund it, and then claim government can't do something when the wheels come off." more than bureaucracy. Same was done to the Post Office.
