Two questions about Afghanistan...

1. Why did so many American citizens go into Afghanistan knowing it was a war zone?

2. Why didn't the tens of thousands of Afghans clamoring to get of Afghanistan (most who have already been airlifted out) fight to save their country from the Taliban and the horrors they don't want to live under?

A lot of them have Afghan roots. For instance, 24 San Diego high schoolers and their families went to Afghanistan on vacation in July. San Diego is home to the largest Afghan resettlement program in the US. They probably felt they're in no danger, as they blend in, but they now want to get out.

Come to think of it, the reason they are in the US is because they were able to demonstrate credible fear for their lives, so not sure what changed to make their visits less risky now that they're US citizens.
