Government at it's worse -- the A10 Warthog survives despite being outdated (40 years) and duplicative.

Useless patronage. Your tax dollars at work!

In reality there are mixed views on this.

@DownTheStreet Thanks... I don't think we need 40 year old anti tank planes. The Apache is all we need.

Neither survivable in contested airspace but we haven’t faced such for a while, but in the next war who knows?@Human1000

@Human1000 How fast does the Apache fly?
Human1000 · M
@sunsporter1649 Slower than the Warthog I presume, but there are still planes with air to ground capability.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Human1000 What is the combat range of the Apache?
Human1000 · M
@sunsporter1649 I don’t know.

@Human1000 Some day, when the pencils are snapping around your ears, and tanks are rumbling towards you, the Warthogs, with their superior speed and long legs, are just the tool needed
Human1000 · M
@sunsporter1649 Yikes. Tanks for the warning!
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Human1000 The Apache is almost as old as the A10 as it first flew in 1975 so it's no spring chicken either and will need to be replaced soon too... These old warriors are not designed for the modern day battlefield but that's not what we've been fighting against either.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@sunsporter1649 For once we agree on something, ask grunts how much they love the old Warthog and what it does!
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@spjennifer the Apache Longbow Block D is quite the fearsome weapon
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@CantExplain Agreed but it doesn't have the weapons load of an A10C, nor the loitering capability.

@spjennifer I had an A-10 buzz me from behind while I was driving once on a long stretch of road in rural Kansas. I didn’t hear it it was on top me…SURPRISE!! I figured the pilot was doing a little practicing.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@CantExplain That's what some enemies experience when being "buzzed" by an A10, feel the Brrrrttttttt and then feel nothing... 😲
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@spjennifer Don't run.....you will only die tired
