The Trump Coronavirus Death Toll Passes 600,000 Dead Americans

The death toll for the virus Trump denied, said was going away, and wasn't a problem at all is approaching the total dead in the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918-1919, and the total Civil War dead. And though cases and deaths are decreasing in many (mostly blue) states, in states with higher numbers of Trump Cultists and other deniers and anti-vaxxers, cases are increasing, even as more people are getting vaccinated. They may push the death toll still higher as their denial of reality continues.

I know a lot of people are going to be like, "Ew, CNN!" when I post this link, but it contains an actual transcript of one of the Woodward tapes where Trump literally admits knowing how dangerous coronavirus is and playing it down, because he "doesn't want to create a panic".

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/09/politics/bob-woodward-rage-book-trump-coronavirus/index.html

Skip the article if you must, but play the embedded audio. Please, inform yourself. He knew. He lied. Half a million people died.

@LordShadowfire And if Trump would have told the general public something like "A new, deadly virus has just hit the United States", people would have panicked, and then the news media would have said "Trump causes panic in US about deadly virus" and all the opinion idiots on TV would have said, "ohhh he should have played it down"

So yea, no matter what he would have done, people would have been whiny fucking babies like they still are. The man isn't president, not sure why people still let him live in their heads 24/7 lol. It's actually pretty hilarious.

By the way, people would have died, regardless of what he did or said.
@twiigss I disagree. If he had told the public what he told Bob, a lot of people would not now be claiming that the whole thing is a hoax, and a lot more people wouldn't have gotten sick.

But hey, you go on living in your little fantasy world if you like.

@LordShadowfire Who said anything about a fantasy world? Just calling it as I see it. This supervisor at another job we all hated, finally quit, and I said to my friend, "glad he's gone now we can forget about him" my friend says, "kind of hard to forget when you keep bringing him up."

He made a valid point.
@twiigss I don't mean the fact that folks are still complaining about the job he did. That much is true. I mean to say that fewer people would have died if Trump hadn't been actively contradicting the medical experts.

@LordShadowfire But didn't pelosi say it was okay to go out to chinatown or wherever? And wasn't it Trump who enacted the flight restrictions from china and people called him racist? It made sense to restrict travel at that time, so why get mad that he restricted travel to keep us saver? Ohhhh right, because they hate him.

Wasn't it that doctor who said masks aren't needed, then changed course? If masks did help, then by him saying at first they weren't needed, he is as much to blame.

And what if hillary was in office? I honestly don't think she could have done a better job. But, because he is hated, it just gives them more reason to complain. If you had 600K deaths under hillary, people wouldn't slam her for it. Or what about under barry? Would people have slammed him if 600K people died from the virus under his watch? No, they wouldn't have.

@twiigss Anyone would have done a better job than Trump. Hillary, Bill, Biden, Pence. Bush.

Face it, Trump's denial and gross mishandling of the pandemic killed people. Hundreds of thousands of people. Presidents are often challenged with difficult situations. Trump failed his biggest challenge miserably, and to this day blames others.

The fact is that the travel restrictions covered only Chinese nationals coming from China. Trump had Americans fly back from China on a small number of common flights. People who turned out to be infected. His travel restrictions did very little to contain the virus and keep us safer. That was never his objective.

Recommendations change as better information is obtained and you follow the science. Trump can't even spell "science".

If 600,000 people died because of Clinton's malfeasance, you damn well better believe she would be slammed, and rightfully so. The same if Barry Sanders was president. Or if anyone was president. The fact it that anyone else would have done a better job, because other presidents actually care about American lives, as incredible as that may seem having lived (or died) with Trump.
twiigss · M
@windinhishair I meant Barry as in obama. I remember he told a few lies himself and no one is slamming him for it. Again, it all comes down to the hate people have for Trump.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@twiigss Obama's lies didn't kill 600,000 people, but enjoy your bogus equivalency. Obama would have been another competent leader during the pandemic. We had the great misfortune to have had a minority elect a severely mentally ill and incompetent leader, and it cost us far too many American lives.
twiigss · M
@windinhishair never said Obama's lies didn't kill 600k people. I'm making the connection that "all politicians lie". All people lie, that's a fact. No matter the president, people would have died. How many is the unknown number.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@twiigss As I said, there is no equivalency, either in the number or extent of lies. Trump lied constantly, more than 30,500 times in office that are documented. His White House counsel begged Robert Mueller not to interview Trump because "Trump is incapable of telling the truth."

Your child hurting his sister and Ted Bundy killing 30 women are both hurting other people and wrong, but they are far from equivalent.
@twiigss Trump didn't explain why he was restricting travel to China. As such, everyone assumed it was part of his overall hate on for China. Also, his travel restriction had a lot of exceptions that didn't make any sense.

As regards your statement that people would have died regardless, of course that's true, but the numbers would look a lot different. Maybe 100,000 people would have died instead of 600,000. The fact is, Trump intentionally created a culture of people who mistrust the medical expertise of the doctors in this country.
