Veganism has the unassailable moral high ground. Change my mind.

Among populations where eating meat and animal products in not made necessary by economic conditions, vegans are morally correct that animal suffering trumps your enjoyment of animal products.

Eh fair enough.

Though I will point out human suffering is involved in both meat and farming industries. I would argue that while vegans do have the high ground, it's like... not very high really. Maybe a few inches. It's just about practically impossible to live your life in a way that causes no suffering to other living beings.
@Doomflower

It is practically speaking very difficult. But one must try

@Pikachu you have actually made me rethink my ethics. Good job.
@Doomflower Well good on you for being open-minded👍

@Pikachu I love meat though.
@Doomflower Me too. If we didn't then it would be a non-issue.
But we do and that's why it's an ethical struggle.
Our deeply engrained biological enjoyment of a high protein food source vs the much more recently evolved ability to conceptualize suffering, empathy, right and wrong.

@Pikachu I struggle the most with ham because I feel like pigs are too intelligent to eat. Same with octopus. Like... if you can solve complex puzzles and play video games I don't wanna eat you. 😫

And other animals... even dumb sheep have feelings. And I know from my time keeping aquariums that fish are not as dumb or unfeeling as people think.

I can't justify it but I still eat animals. I don't know what to do. I could stop but I would miss chicken.

@Doomflower Well, of all meats, chicken is one of the more environmentally friendly ones. It's also nice to go a reducitarianism route if you feel overwhelmed with the idea of giving up meat entirely.
@Doomflower

Same. I feel so guilty about pork.
I understand completely. I can't justify it either. I'm a hypocrite without the courage of my convictions.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Pikachu If you'd like, I can give you my recipes list google doc & you could try incorporating one or two into your diet. It wouldn't solve everything, but every little bit counts.
@BlueVeins

Thanks, i'm ok though. There are a bunch of vegetarian recipes i like and a few meatless meat products i like a lot. It's just i haven't been able to completely eliminate animals from my diet which makes me feel bad.

@BlueVeins thank you for your support!!!

I am not a big pork or cow eater, most of my meat is chicken or fish so I could see just avoiding ham and cow to start with. I might even get some vegetarian sausages. Those aren't too bad.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Pikachu I was talkin' in the other comment thread about mussels and the reason why I started eating them was because I was getting meat cravings and they satisfied them. Not sayin' that's what you need, but it's not a bad hack to try if you buy the morality angle I was tryna sell. Granted, they have a bit of a... unique texture and eating too many puts one at risk for heavy metals toxicity.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Doomflower TBH I've never liked vegetarian sausage. I ride with veggie burgers, Impossible Whoppers, and that's pretty much it. 👌 Damn, it's been a long time since I've had a veggie burger. In any case, I'm always happy to lend any support I can to someone who's trying to care for animals and the environment. 🔥

@BlueVeins I love clams and muscles. I feel like crabs and lobster are giant underwater bugs and like them too but I hate them being boiled alive.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Doomflower Yeah, I kinda think the whole boiling alive thing is crazy 👀 and I'm pretty sure it's not all that risky to kill them humanely right before cooking them. But yeah, in my searching, I've found that mussels & clams are almost certainly not sentient and that it's therefore OK to cook them. 😌 So yeah, if you wanna help the animals, maybe incorporate more of those into your diet.
@BlueVeins

Yeah i think that's one ethical hurdle i will not have to jump because i'm just not going to eat those things lol
