Do you boo Mitt Romney?

The man was once a *very* respected member of his party and community not 10 years ago. Now they "boo" him because he won't drink the Kool Aide? Republican party is looking like a cult...
windinhishair · 61-69, M
It is the very definition of a cult, and that is sad for all of us. Having two parties with different ideas is healthy. But if one of those is a Cult and disregards reality, that is very unhealthy.
[@867436,REMsleep] Are you aware of the whole Kolob story?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] I don't study their doctrines extensively but I am aware that they have teachings regarding extra planets and such.....

So I just took a look at it and leading Mormon apologists say that "Kolob is only meantioned once as an example and has no bearing or relevance in Mormon theology."

In my opinion they always try to downplay what they believe to mainstream public media outlets.
I know that they do infact believe that God was once a mortal that worshipped a higher God but that he elevated to God status later.

To be fair since I am a Christian there are many things that I believe that others cannot or won't accept as well.
Graylight · 46-50, F
[@867436,REMsleep] But Kolob is no different a belief that any unsubstantiated belief. Catholics believe some people could be taken directly to heaven in body, mind and spirit.

LDS do believe God was once mortal, but his identity is that of Elohim, a Biblical figure, so not all that science-fictiony. Christians also believe God was once flesh through the manifestation of Jesus on earth. He is considered divinely spirit and divinely human.

And you say it well. There are tenets to probably any faith that, when seen isolated of half-known by an outsider, seem absurd. Yes, the Mormons wear temple garments. Catholics wear scapulae, meant to shave time off your sentence in purgatory just by virtue of not removing them. But all Christian faiths need have only one thing in common: the acceptance of Jesus Christ as God's only begotten Son from whom everlasting life was granted in exchange for a heavenly sacrifice. Everything else is just sprinkles.

If you don’t kiss the trump ring, you get booed. That’s all it’s about, and when that’s all it’s about, I tend to agree with Romney. Aren’t you embarrassed? America was not made to kiss the ass of one man.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
[@23104,JustNik] Even a man with such a capacious ass as Trump. He's the biggest ass of all, which leaves much to kiss for the sycophants.
Graylight · 46-50, F
Belonging to the GOP:

Toe the party line and we love you. Shout it louder, you're a star.

Wonder aloud at some of the policy decisions we make? Get ready to tweets, ignorant sound bites and hurt feelings.

Criticize your own members or side with literally anyone else, death. Political, social, financial, it doesn't matter. you're finished.

Hard to say you're progressing this country to great things when you literally punish anyone who steps out of party line.
[@627992,Graylight] I absolutely agree. Whenever you see an organization where there is no argument between members, it means only one person is doing the thinking for everyone.
I respect the fact that he stood against Donald Trump. For a Republican, that took a certain amount of integrity.
tindrummer · M
One of the few decent national stage repubs that deserves respect.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Romney has integrity to uphold his capitalist, old school conservative, corporate lacky politics.
I respect that he has enough confidence to speak as he believes but end of the day he's only marginally better in substance.
[@867436,REMsleep] I'm good with people who are marginally better. It's a step back toward sanity.
Mitt Romney is a country club/Wall Street republican who would sell his kids to the cartel for a dollar.
Burnley123 · 36-40, M
[@449169,YourMomsForbiddenCrush] Trump-appointed a load of Goldman Sachs bankers but he is rude disabled and brown people so counts as anti-establishment.

Romney has terrible politics and good manners.
Northwest · M
There's an effort underway to cleanse the GOP from all the people who do not believe the big lie. It has already widened the gap between Americans and at this point, it's more like the Grand Canyon.

I believe the GOP is done for. Changing the name to the Orange Party is all that's left to do.
[@9416,Northwest] I say let the Trump worshippers do what they're going to do. They'll either form a third party and become irrelevant, or the remaining sane Republicans will form a new party to replace the GOP.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] This began before Trump with The Tea Party.
Trump capitalized off of that energy and put his own spin on it and ratcheted up the crazy.
I don't think that these sentiments will end anytime soon because half of the country is into it. It was a Trump thing really he just branded it as the marketing and promo guy that he is.
I didn't vote for the guy when he was running for president, but I wouldn't have been upset if he had won. He's got actual moral/ethical standards still, which is why ReTRUMPlicans don't like him.
trollslayer · 46-50, M
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] Same. I probably would have voted for him in the General in 2008 had he beat out McCain. And I might have voted for McCain if not for Sarah Palin. I actually think Romney would have been a pretty good president.
[@1204250,trollslayer] It definitely wouldn't have been the end of the world. Obama's first term didn't actually impress me that much.
trollslayer · 46-50, M
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] Well, me neither, but I felt the Obama administration was heading in the right direction and felt a change of administration wasn't warranted. I generally stick with incumbents unless I think things are badly going in the wrong direction or if there is someone clearly better. Last year, I didn't think Biden was necessarily that good of a candidate, but Trump was the wrong direction, in a BIG BIG way.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
That's because the cult is mostly made up of hardcore Evangelicals now so there's no way they can support a Mormon. Romney will never drink the Koolaid so will always be booed by the far right. I don't agree with his politics but i don't think he had or has evil intentions.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
I wasn't there, but if I was, yeah I woulda booed that idiot until my throat was sore.
[@622788,SumKindaMunster] I didn't vote for either candidate. I don't remember who I voted for, except that I liked her platform of "corporations are not people, and don't deserve to be treated as such".

Did you vote for Donald "Go get 'em! Fight! Wait, I was being sarcastic"! Trump?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] 🙄 Don't remember huh?

I voted for Trump in 2020, not 2016.
Graylight · 46-50, F
He has been ex-communicated. Shunned. He's a suppressive.

I don't agree with Mitt Romney's politics. Never really have. But he's a measured, honest man with a conscience and I'd vote him over any one of the other republicans in Congress right now.
MasterLee · 51-55, M
He was never respected. He has always been a joke.
LeoWulf · 36-40, M
Mormons are morons and it's okay to boo morons 😂
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] Does it? You should read it again then.
[@622788,SumKindaMunster] Just did, partly because I'm half asleep and couldn't remember. Still sounds right to me.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
[@1201381,ShadowfireTheSarcastic] Whatever then. The entirety of your responses indicate you are not interested in discussing politics with other users here or with me in any sort of sincere or relevant manner.

Rather, your focus seems to be on saying provocative things to generate a reaction, then spending your time insulting the person for responding.

You are clearly not sincere, a quality indicated in your user name, calling yourself "sarcastic".

I'm not going to waste my time teeing up a troll so he can lazily insult me and put me down.

If you make low effort, childish responses to me, that is exactly what you will get in return.

People who want respect, give respect.

People who want to be taken seriously, take others seriously.

Anything else before I move on from your bullshit?

It is a cult. It's a Trump cult. Guaranteed in 2024 their candidate will be Trump. Then probably Trump Jr. They have nothing else, so if someone like Romney goes against it, he's going against the core of the Republican party. So I completely understanding the booing. But it's also funny to watch. :P
Kindheartedguy · 46-50, M
I remember being in church wondering who these "Crucify Him!" people were...
