Universal Health Care is a right.

I don't know why you want to keep insisting on letting homeless children die of terminal diseases just to keep your stupid health insurance systems up and running. Canada has an awesome single payer system that helps its people out to a wonderful degree so all this "iT dOeSn'T wOrK" is pure BS. Social democracy is the way.

One size fits all!
@sunsporter1649 Once again factually wrong but one idea that has a few different approaches and they all work. Unlike your failed system and only succeeds on making billionaires on misery. Hell a former HMO top exec turned whistleblower defected because she stated before congress the US healthcare insurance system is basically organized crime.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Like I said, one size fits all, my hysterectomy will be covered, no problem.
@sunsporter1649 Again proving you know nothing about anything you comment on.

@sunsporter1649 Universal health care, as in, no waits for the politically connected. If they need a procedure, they'll go to the front of the line. For us serfs, say your prayers that you'll be seen in time and that the waits are not too long. (In California, the state Legislature set up its own DMV office so legislators wouldn't have to wait in line like the people they're supposed to serve. That's how universal health care will work.)
@graphite Except every developed country on earth except the US has universal health care and it doesn't work like your libertarian fear mongering.

What does happen in the US though is the size of your wallet decides who gets care first.
graphite · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yet people from all over the planet are fighting to get into the USA, legally or otherwise. And when people overseas need an important medical procedure, where they go? For reference see: "Mick Jagger passes on UK National Health system and gets heart surgery in New York". FWIW, my wallet's pretty small but I do have health insurance.
@graphite Maybe 40 or 50 years ago that was true. That is almost entirely a bullshit myth now.

Mick Jagger came to the US because like I said he can buy his way to the front of the line. No other reason.

A ten year study showed the wealthiest Americans get the same level of healthcare outcomes as the poorest people in the UK and the quality of care in the NHS was overall better.

Oh and the US pays on average double what the rest of the world pays for care for at best mediocre results.

Try looking up actual facts instead of myths and legends.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow We're #1.

Excerpt: The United States is far and away the most popular destination for the world’s immigrants.

Why are they coming to the US with its "horrible" health care system? Maybe because they know that is a bunch of b***s**t.
graphite · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow re: "Oh and the US pays on average double what the rest of the world pays for care for at best mediocre results." That's funny. I and members of my family have had life-threatening illnesses and, despite being of modest means, we've been taken care of and we're all still here.
@graphite I am sorry you would rather bury your head in the sand and believe right wing cliches and nationalist fairytales.

And your source is just some random company the sells services to immigrants that has no sources or anything on how they arrive at their numbers. That's credible. 🤣
graphite · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow How about this one, then? (All these people coming to the horrible place with horrible health care! Aaaah!!) https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/03/which-countries-have-the-most-immigrants-51048ff1f9/
@graphite You do realize that compared to a fucking warzone people will immigrate literally anywhere and most of the people coming to the US are from the southern border. Do the math.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow You mean a war zone like portland, ore.?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Markov chain rounds back to familiar pastures 🤣

Doofus - universal healthcare doesn’t mean one-size-fits all. It just means everyone gets healthcare. You can set it up single-payer like the Canadians, you can set it up nearly fully private with lots of players, like the Swiss. You can have multiple tiers of healthcare, you can have combined public/private options (like we do for the elderly in the states), etc etc.

But of course, you’re too thick for any of this to sink in.
@sunsporter1649 Based on the arrests those clowns are on your side not mine.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@graphite Your own link shows that Switzerland has more immigrants than the US when you adjust for population. And the Swiss not only have universal healthcare, but one full of private for-profit players. One country demolishing both of your salient points sinply by existing.
@sunsporter1649 One size fits all. Where have we seen that before...

@canusernamebemyusername Still defending those "mostly peaceful protesters", eh? Amusing
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul it’s worth noting that the current model in the US creates a relief valve for the CAN and UK systems.

I know personally of quite a few wealthy folks from both of those countries who could not get the care they desired and paid for care in the US.

It’s possible that the wealthy will move mountains to keep the US system as it is.

I wonder how rich sporty is?

@JoeyFoxx The wealthy go all over, because core competencies within different specialties vary between first world nations (and even second world nations). Rand Paul went to Canada for his surgery. Jordan Peterson went to Russia for his benzo detox. Wealthy people go to Switzerland for a whole range of things. Israel is also a premier destination for medical tourism by the wealthy.

People always seem to equate universal healthcare with monolithic state-run public programs, but that is just one way to set things up - and something of a strawman because even nations like UK and Canada have high end private options operating alongside large single-payer systems.

@QuixoticSoul US population: 345 million. Switzerland population: 8.54 million. You're really comparing the US to a country that small? 🤣 (Switzerland does have a very high rate of gun ownership. I suppose the Democrats don't want to talk about that.)
