They did a fine job.
But then, the defense had the task of trying to defend the indefensible.

@Carla That's true. They didn't have much to work with. But, I think they erred in not putting him on the stand to show his human side... assuming he has one. Unless they assessed he couldn't show or act out a human side.

@MarkPaul his past acts would have buried him.
And as far as having a human side, that would have been seen as questionable as soon as they led him through those nine plus minutes. Especially the last few.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Carla That's the point. If he does have a human side, and from his demeanor in the courtroom his attorneys may have already determined he doesn't have that, they needed to show a contrast with him on video. All the jury got to see was his video side.

@MarkPaul yeah...I feel certain his team strongly advised him to not to slit his own throat.
I am interested in how the judge sees him.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Carla I don't think the judge will give him the maximum sentence on each charge, but not the lightest one either. I get the feeling the judge is going to give him time to be rehabilitated... if he wants it.

Just from the guy's body language (in the video and in the courtroom), I'm not sure he believes he needs rehabilitation. He seems like a Bernie Madoff type who never believes he really did anything wrong.

@MarkPaul exactly. He killed a man. On tape. He knew he was killing a man. On tape.
You could see defiance dripping from his body.
I think it would take a lot of years to rehab that out of him.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Carla Well, he's definitely going to be getting years...
Carla · 61-69, F
@MarkPaul I've read that protective custody is a mind fuck. I wonder if he will prefer that or the alternative in general.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Carla Too risky to put him in the general population as an ex-cop. I doubt he will be given the choice.

@MarkPaul some justice is simply sweet.
And sometimes tragic events spark real change.
Sappily hopeful.
