What the hell has happened to Georgia? Goodbye to the "Land of the Brave and Home of the Free" . Welcome to the anal restrictive Republicans

SW-User
Republicans aren't even pretending this is about "fraud" anymore; it's just flat-out attempting to make it more difficult to vote.

@SW-User
They arrested a state representative because she knocked on the door of the room the racist legislation was signed in. I am surprised the police didn’t wear their KKK hoods.
Georgia’s going back to what it was. The restrictive South. Ironic, since the GOP is now behaving just like those Dixiecrats who established the KKK.

@bijouxbroussard sad and scary with what the Governor is doing.
Do you need ID to drive? How about banking? Buying liquor or cigarettes? Yeah, you need ID to prove your age. Credit requires ID. Paying taxes requires an ID. Collecting social security or unemployment benefits requires ID. Doctor’s visits require ID. But for some reason voting should require nothing? That should be exempt? 😂🤣 By the very same rules of your outrage I should be able to walk into your bank, say I am you and with no further proof withdraw all of your money! Get a grip.
@stratosranger If you’re white no one would question you there if you did.
cycleman · 61-69, M
@stratosranger ID is required to vote. Get educated stratosranger.
One of the bills filed Monday would require registered voters to provide their date of birth, driver’s license number or other ID card number to request an absentee ballot. The bill would also require voters to submit photocopies of their ID similar to a separate bill proposed by state Sen. Jason Anavitarte, R-Dallas, last week
– ending automatic voter registration for Georgians who receive new or renewed driver’s licenses;
– prohibiting anyone except state and local elections officials and candidates from sending voters applications for mail-in ballots;
– blocking people from casting ballots in congressional or U.S. Senate runoffs after voting in general elections in a different state;
– requiring county coroners to share monthly data on local deaths with county elections officials to prevent illegal ballots from dead voters;
– allowing poll watchers to monitor vote tabulations more closely.
In essence, stopping election FRAUD. Yes, I’m educated on it, thank you.

This wouldn’t be a thing if the GOP, rather than change state laws to cheat in future elections, changed their backwards thinking and actually had policies that helped all Americans. Maybe then they wouldn’t be so unpopular.
cycleman · 61-69, M
@SW-User racist hypocrites .... that is what they truly are.
CestManan · 46-50, F
Georgia is on the forefront of BS more than any other state.
Heh, and they call Arkansas the arm pit of the nation.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
What happened
Pfuzylogic · M
@CestManan
I “like” the new law that it is criminal to give food or water for someone standing in line to vote.
This stinks of racism and the Civil Rights legislation addressed this in 1965! Georgia republicans do need to wake up.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@CestManan It’s a ploy worthy of the Chinese Communist Party... identify who voted against you, identify their easiest and preferred voting methods, and severely limit those methods.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@newjaninev2 Bruh 💀 We've always used IDs to vote. It's common practice in my part of the world.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
I am pretty much over it.
cycleman · 61-69, M
@Doomflower it scares me!
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@cycleman why?
@Doomflower Me too.
Voting is over rated anyway, I live in Ca, and we overwhelmingly voted several years ago to not allow illegals in schools, or give them state aid or treat them at hospitals, only to be ignored by the courts. Last year we again voted to eliminate the time change and keep daylight savings time year round...still changing those damn clocks twice a year.
What is the sense of voting if it means nothing?
cycleman · 61-69, M
@independentone sadly, you are deliberately defeating the values of the voting
spjennifer · 61-69, T
In most civilized Western Nations, it's normal practice and even Law in some Countries to have to show ID to vote. America should be no different and there should be a National Election Commission that sets the same voting rules for all States. Laws for voting should be the exact same in every State or is that too Communist for some? Let the States control their State Elections but they should not have any say in the Presidential Election.
Having to show ID will eliminate signature matching, so, just a trade off there, you can still vote by mail, but you have to request it, it won't just be sent to everyone, meh, baby steps. The water thing is to make it illegal for vendors to hawk their goods at polling places. If some old lady needs some water, you can still give her one for free, just can't be charging for it.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@independentone On a hot day with people outdoors in line, people charge for G.D. water?
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Georgia has issues that still affect them today. I think it's pretty obvious what that issue is
cycleman · 61-69, M
@Zonuss Yes, they have issues in being supremely two faced!
CestManan · 46-50, F
Maybe they need to set up the media so only Georgia's circle of friends can see what BS the state is pulling this week.

What are the actual restrictions?

@cycleman Found it through a link on that site.

This has a list of the changes, which is what I was looking for, thanks.
@DDonde It’s funny when you go to the links all you get is spin and opinion but never a direct answer on what changes were made. To simplify without extraneous narrative:

One of the bills would require registered voters to provide their date of birth, driver’s license number or other ID card number to request an absentee ballot. The bill would also require voters to submit photocopies of their ID similar to a separate bill proposed by state Sen. Jason Anavitarte, R-Dallas, last week

– requiring county coroners to share monthly data on local deaths with county elections officials to prevent illegal ballots from dead voters;
– allowing poll watchers to monitor vote tabulations more closely.

In other words, closing off all the ways elections are STOLEN.
