True. But our gov't also creates policies on their own that inflate the price
For example - shutting down major US based pipelines forces our dependence (at least in some part) on middle eastern or foreign oil, which is obviously going to cost more.
This administration also feels that Americas purchasing of Middle Eastern oil helps "stabilize the overall global economy" by not having refineries shut down and letting them continue to produce (at record levels). Whereas the last administration was trying to be energy independent and wasn't really concerned about the global market/supply. I could also argue that foreign oil has had a monopoly for decades and if they happen to struggle, so be it.
People have different views, my point isn't to argue them - but there are multiple variables that affect the price at the pump and our gov't has a sizable impact on it as well.

We didn't do this - we didn't build a pipeline so that the leafistanis could export oil to the Chinese. There is a vast difference.
And we purchase middle eastern oil for refining largely because of its quality. We always do, even when we're net exporters. For that matter domestic oil isn't always cheaper for us either - our extraction price is very high - Saudis extract at ~$3 per barrel and we can't come close.
