Looks like Joe "I'm a West Virginia democrat" Manchin doesn't wanna represent West Virginia.

Dude is vehemently opposed to the minimum wage increase despite that it has a 67% approval rating among West Virginia voters.

When will politicians realize their mandate is to enact the will of the people, not push their individual agenda?

@BlueMetalChick Thanks back!

@Graylight Since when is 67% of West Virginia "the will of the people" in the USA?

Also, Joe ain't a dictator. He needs to have enough votes in the senate too. It's not all that simplistic.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Kwek00 67% is a pretty comfortable majority. Last time j checked, we live in a democracy. The voters out him in to do what they want, yes?

Want a better example? Universal background checks on firearm purchases polls over 90% among American voters. Mitch McConnell bragged about opposing that legislation. He boasted that he wasn't afraid to stand up and fight back against the voter base. And yes, that's meant to be sarcastic.

@BlueMetalChick We aren't talking about Mitch, we are talking about Joe. And 67% in West Virginia isn't 67% of the USA. Also, if you want to talk about a minimum wage, maybe it's good to talk about a lot more. Just changing the minimum wage without looking at the entire financial structure seems a bit weird to me. But hey, I'm all pro bringing those hamburger-job wages up. Just saying that Joe ain't a dictator, the president isn't the messiah, and things are way better off decided trough congress and the senate. Where legeslation is supposed to be made.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Kwek00 So a vote comes up in the Senate on whether or not to increase the minimum wage, and despite what his constituents have made very clear, he decides to vote no on a wage increase. You're not making a point by saying he isn't a dictator. It is obvious that he isn't a dictator. But he was given a chance to vote for something his base wants and he did the opposite.

@BlueMetalChick I really need to read into this, but I believe the only thing he did was choose not to put it up in a big covid-relieve bill by this reconsiliation process through simple majority. Because he didn't have 60% of the senate. And that there is a lot of discussion, if this process should even be used this way.

Which makes a lot of lefties on youtube talk about how the most powerfull man in the country, didn't just do what they believe needed to be done. I saw one yesterday, moaning about the "most powerfull man in the country", and I was asking myself if the man actually ever read political theory on constitutional democracies.

I'm not a big fan of Biden, because he's a guy that twists and turns and is overly pragmatic when it comes to his stances. On the other hand, so far, I still have trust that the man understands how the rules of the republic work and I think he wants to govern accordingly. If he keeps that up, that's something I admire. Because this messiah complex that surrounds American Presidents isn't really healthy for their democratic process.
