Geez, the images coming out of Texas are grim.

people lined up at a single working faucet for water, icicles hanging off ceiling fans, bathtubs filled with a solid block of ice, and storied of a couple people being frozen to death.

really sad. hope everyone in texas is okay.

It's awful. We miraculously still have power but haven't had running water for a week. Houses down here are built for rapid heat release, which means they hold very little heat even when you have a heater. So imagine how cold it is when your power is out.... yeah it's not Minnesota or Canada level winter. But for a state that doesn't get winters like this and isn't at all prepared for it...it's terrible.

@DearAmbellina2113 yeah, its really brutal. Im seeing a ton of roofs cave in because they weren't built to bare the load of the snow. absolutely crazy.
@NoahB who would pay for repairs, insurance, government or the people?
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@mysteryespresso the people
NoahB · 26-30, M
@mysteryespresso depends on the damage i suppose. the government should def pay for all damages caused by failing infrastructure such as water and electricity. I say this bc republican gov deregulated the utility sector there. That deregulation allowed the utility industries to cut a bunch of corners and not weatherize anything. Gov can recoup their losses by suing the private utility companies. Admittidly they will probably lose a good amount because they let the utility companies piss on regulations

@NoahB Texas is notoriously against allocating state funds to the people. They're the "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" bunch. 🙄
NoahB · 26-30, M
@DearAmbellina2113 yeah. just noticed his question was worded as "who *would* pay" and not "who *should* pay"
@DearAmbellina2113 you need a backup. Water is important as well. Money can’t help in situations like this one☹️Hope volunteers travel to your place for providing help and support
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@mysteryespresso yeah a week without water has absolutely sucked. I definitely don't take running water for granted.
@DearAmbellina2113 need a well and diesel electricity generator
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@mysteryespresso yeah a few people on my street have generators. But even with the well water- the water advisory board said to boil all water before using...well you can't boil water without power unless you have a propane stove. And not everyone has one.
@DearAmbellina2113 great. Can ask those neighbors to let you charge your phone and water can be boiled in an electric kettle
@DearAmbellina2113 if people help each other they can manage to survive in difficult situations
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@mysteryespresso Texas just doesn't work that way unfortunately. People here are very Libertarian and believe in "to each their own"...meaning they help themselves and leave the others to the wolves.
