For those of you who believe that a person is created at the time of conception, what are your thoughts on in vitro fertilization?

Is it an issue for you? Or does it only count if it growing in a woman's body?
Persephonee · 22-25, F
Of course it's a person, albeit one not created in a particularly 'natural' way.

IVF is not something, for instance, the Catholic Church recognises as licit (however horribly difficult that might be for some couples :( ). But that doesn't for a moment mean the person created in IVF isn't a person in the same manner and at the same time as anyone else!
@Persephonee

Well i agree with that. No difference in that respect.
But i was wondering more what people thought with regard to the fact that in vitro necessarily involves several embryos being discarded.
Persephonee · 22-25, F
@Pikachu for Catholics at least, that's one of the principal reasons to reject it!
@Persephonee

That makes sense.
@Pikachu I know. But it was a fun line of thought.
@canusernamebemyusername

lol i guarantee someone holds that opinion though
@Pikachu Sadly:(

I have no thoughts about it
it is all for those who chose it to make sense off
@Ingwe

Well does the OP represent your position?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
The soul itself is a goofy and pointless concept.
@QuixoticSoul

Well i guess that depends on what you believe about an afterlife. But i don't think anyone has one.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Any growing person born or unborn has a soul which is just the essence of who we are. A body is only a vehicle. Mechanics of conception are unimportant. Invitro is just mechanization of normal natural process.
@REMsleep

lol well ok, but i'm sure you're not in favour of what you consider abortion on the basis that it's economical
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Pikachu No but I won't say that I'm not in favor of invitro. I'm not infavor of the common practice of discarding embryos.
There are Christians that feel as I do and they fertilize only 3 eggs and make the commitment to use all 3. Some clinics will implant all remaining eggs at a time which is not optimal for fertilization at your request which is marginally better in my opinion than throwing them away.
@REMsleep

Well fair enough.
I guess that's kind of like being not eating meat from factory farms but still eating ethically sourced meat.
