She was identified after her daughter Helena, 18, tweeted video of the confrontation, adding a caption that read: 'Hi mom remember the time you told me I shouldn't go to BLM protests bc they could get violent鈥his you?'

Footage from a protest on January 5, the day before the Capitol riot, shows Duke trying to snatch a phone out of the hands of security guard Ashanti Smith, 28, who immediately wheeled around and jabbed the Trump supporter in the face with her fist.

Smith was fired after the incident and charged with assault, but insists that she acted in self-defense.

Duke said she had worked at UMass as a medical assistant for 15 years and now Smith worries about her future job prospects.
馃 Lete's see. Assaulting a police officer at the Capitol?

Don't think she'll be having to worry about applying for a job anytime soon. 馃槀

Nothing to be proud here. She was wrong for going to Capitol. But when you see hundreds of properties were burned over Black rights, she did nothing in compared.

It takes a special kind of abomination to target your own mother for political vendetta. Her mother disliked her supporting to BLM also but didn't do public drama like that..

Politics should never be something which creates that much animosity among family.

Completely in agreement with what Sen. Lindsey Graham says here:

@SW-User I think you're painting with a broad brush based on sensationalized incidents. I've been to and known several people who have attended BLM protests and none of us witnessed or partook in property destruction. You can look up and down BLM chapters and affiliated pages and not find anything advocating for vandalism. Furthermore, significant parts of the violence and property damage were caused by right-wing instigators as different police departments can attest to in their arrest report.

That said, I agree that violence like that is unwarranted, unproductive, and morally wrong. In the heat of mass protests, the mob mentality emboldens a lot of destructive tendencies from easily suggestible members. Not just with BLM, or political protest in general. Sometimes it just takes a soccer game. That's why I think you're doing a great disservice to fairness by conflating the two as parts of the same ideology.

Something tells me the mother has a history of behavior like this given her daughter's response. She doesn't even act shocked in the tweet
